maybe.. Amazon no longer sell ANY iOS devices directly. All things like iPad or iPhones, for which require you to use a web browser workaround for their Amazon Video App (to avoid the 30% cut from Apple are no longer sold by Amazon directly. So it makes sense for them to stop selling AppleTV directly also.
Of course this does not stop third party merchants from reselling iPhone, iPads and AppleTV on Amazon. Like they are already doing. Amazon doesn't have to sell Apple product directly out of spite, the 3rd party merchants will do it for them. So its just silly.

Before people blast Amazon for this, keep in mind that Apple doesn't sell Fire TV's or Google Chromecasts. What's more, they pulled Nest thermostats off their shelves when the company was bought by Google. If you don't see anything wrong with that, you don't have a leg to stand on now.
Hasn't stopped Netflix from having an app, at a time when all apps had to be developed by Apple. Doesn't stop Amazon having a Kindle or Amazon Prime app on iPads.
I honestly don't think it's the 30% cut that's stopping them, because if it was they'd have abandoned the iOS platform as well, instead of just cutting in-app purchases.
The 30% wipes out their profits but they probably see some value in being on the platform.

Apple isn't a general purpose retailer. Their stores are in service of selling their own products. They could choose to not sell any 3rd party accessories if they wanted to.

I haven't had that many issues with the Plex App. Occasionally my movie library won't show up. When that happens Il just go into the settings and clear the cache and force stop the app and restart it again.
The workaround is even more of PITA on AppleTV (which does not have a browser) and Amazon knows it. On iPad or iPhone, at least its less of a PITA as you don't have to go to a different device to purchase context.
This is why HBO, Showtime and Netflix are willing to the hit on a cut when a customer decides to signup for their service directly on AppleTV. Payments come straight from iTunes account and Apple takes a cut.
Why would they allow this when a workaround is possible? Because its a much bigger PITA to work around on Apple TV than iPhone/iPad.
Amazon is not willing to do this for their rental and purchased movies on AppleTV. So no App on AppleTV. I doubt inclusion of an App store on AppleTV 4 will change Amazon's position on this.
Can you sign up for Netflix from your AppleTV? I haven't seen it as an option. I had to go to the website to join before I could use it on either my AppleTV or my iPad.

That 15% is doable. The reason why nobody is paying the 30% is because it's on the gross price of the digital item. Amazon are making less than that per digital sale so they would be out of pocket

Interesting. When I first got mine it all worked well. Then at some point almost everything started transcoding. Over at the Plex forums there seems to be quite a few people with similar experiences. I then moved to PlexConnect on the ATV3 which, for me, works much better. This is one reason I have been looking forward to the ATV4. Plex on my iPad and iPhone works really well.
In any case, not having the ATV sold on Amazon would have not been a reason, one way or another, when buying a Fire TV. Just seems like a strange move on Amazon's part. I'm not about to stop buying their stuff. I quite like it and their service. This has probably made me think slightly less of them though. Will have to see why they did this.

Plex announced that there currently writing a Plex app for the new apple tv so one less reason to buy the fire.
My Fire TV will become a paperweight when the new Apple TV comes out. I hope the Plex app will be available at launch.
