Is this MBP configuration cheaper for a reason

I'm comparing 2015 to 2014 Macbook Pros and this 2014 2.5 16gb 512gb-ssd is significantly cheaper in Appleinsiders price guide and even cheaper than some 2014 with less in their configuration.

Has there been a problem with this model/configuration and that is why it is cheaper than others?

No problems with that model, it looks like the ones that are lower spec and more expensive are not discounted much. The 2.2GHz 2014 model is only $60 less than a brand new one from Apple.

One thing to keep in mind is that a refresh of some of the Mac line is due in 2-3 weeks with Skylake chips. This might not include the MBP just yet as it would only be about 5 months since the last refresh but it's possible.

I don't know what you mean there. That one was around $2500 when it was a current model. The retailer is pricing it to minimize their loss. If they discount newer ones, it is due to a current promotion. They probably cannot afford to further discount that one. Problems with a specific model rarely ever affect retailer pricing of unused stock.
