17"iMac Sittin on MY Desk! 8.8.02 11:45 PM

That right... I got mine! Drove to International Mall in Tampa, Florida and picked it up today.

They said I got the last one they sold - #16. Sweet #16. Man I was happy to see it with my name tagged on the box knowing it was the only one left in a store full of drooling wanabe iMac customers.

Yea, they were drooling alright. Looks like sales of iMacs are going to do better then some have predicted.

All I can say is this:

Switch to Mac and don't look Back!

Congrats! I felt the same level of excitement the day I darted down to the San Diego Apple Store in March and picked up my SuperDrive LCD iMac.

I savored every moment of the unpacking/set-up process.

And I couldn't stop playing with the screen: lifted it up and down, rotated it, back and forth, etc. about 400,000 times that night.

90 degrees left of center and 90 degrees right of center for a total of 180 degrees of rotation. that's weird I thought it would have be 360 degrees.

Just curious as to why you'd ask such a question.

Anyways so far so good. I too savored the unpacking process. Only thing is that damn ring around the base. It was like it was stuck or something. I finally got the thing off.

Note: I noticed some pen markings on the foam packing material around where the display sits. It looks like they took the same packing material from the 15 incher and cut them to fit the 17". Looked a little weird to me. But what about those cool chrome wire ties. Where the Fvck did apple find those things. Apple does'nt miss a detail.

Just thought I'd pass this on in this thread rather than start a new one.

I talked to the Apple sales rep today at the store about OS 10.2.

He said it's not on the machine. However, anyone as i who purchases a system up until OS 10.2 is released will receive an upgrade after its released the 24th for a price of $20.00.

I'm sure Eugene doesn't mean how far you can rotate it that way, rather, how much you can "jiggle" the display side to side. Many of the displays on the iMacs tilt to one side or the other. Some have more "play" than others, meaning you can take a display that is tilting an inch to the right, and tilt it so it's now leaning an inch lower to the left....

Bigger, heavier display = more tilt and play.

Well, hopefully not. How is yours?

Well at the moment no tilt or play. Seems tight to me. Although i do see 1 stuck blue pixel up in the right hand corner of the display.

Also there looks like small score marks on the plastic edge of the display where the packing foam was taped. Like an x-acto blade was used to cut the foam on the machine.

I called apple about it today and they said for me to bring it back to the store in tampa to show them. I said thats a 5 hour round trip.

Besides this there is nasty sticky residue on the edge of the display in four places from the packing tape adhesive. Any suggestions hour to clean the plastic without messin it up.

Yea. I guess the only good news in this post is that it's my first on my new 17"iMac. Boy she types sweet!!
