If Steve was running Apple from the message board, I bet he would...

I have no enthusiasm to try to come up with a clever whatever.

    Yawn.

A market campaign comparing their latest lineup to 17 year old machines - seriously?? What the hell is Apple thinking?! Between this and the announcement of non-improvement input peripherals, it sounds like a number of "C-list" employees are slipping through the cracks... regardless of Apple's business philosophy, this is a p!$* poor way to market their products.

When Steve Jobs returned to Apple in the 90's, he hated what their marketing staff was doing and cleaned house, and also threw out all their old "museum display" Macs. Did not want the company looking back, under any circumstances; a tech company that looks to the past is one that is standing still. I think the upper-upper management needs to reflect hard on "what Steve would do" in this instant, and clean house again.

Oh, do shut up. What a non-sensical, ludicrous, useless rant. I love that you demand that they do exactly what Steve told them not to do- which is try to guess what he would do. A single page highlighting the incredible progress of a product warrants such hatred? Jobs did stuff like this all the time. ALL THE TIME.

What a small, petty, childish post. Gotta love people who think they're in a position to smear Apple's "C-list" employees, who are no doubt infinitely more accomplished than you'd ever be in 50 lifetimes. Yeah, what useless human beings, working at the most successful company on the planet, known for insanely stringent hiring policies.

Granted, it's a much more capable machine, but it's no longer the affordable machine it once was. For home users looking for an affordable machine, you have to look at the MacBook or MacBook Air line.

The old quadrant layout of consumer/professional-portable/desktop is gone, and the current lineup can't be jammed into it well.

What the hell are you talking about? The iMac starts @ $1099. Can you not do 1 second of research before trolling?

Sad thing is that he is the host on the AI Podcast. I'd expected him to at least acknowledge all the posts that pointed out his mistake.

Guess he'll just dust it off on the next Podcast with some faux-witty comment or justification.

I have the "Yum" poster hanging on my wall. That is all.

Obviously you do not understand what constitutes marketing. And anyone else's opinion that differs from your own does not constitute "nuttiness" or whatever anymore than you are trolling.

Nonsensical, because what -- I didn't goose step to your self-righteous opinion? I love that you think your point of view is so incredibly bullet proof that anyone else should be shut down because you told them to "shut up"... which is incredibly obnoxious, by the way. And seriously, considering your behavior and simultaneously throwing around derogatory words like "small", "petty", "childish", it's a given that you're a few syllables short of meeting the criteria for self awareness. <img class=" src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />

Name one time -- ONE SINGLE INSTANT -- where Jobs approved a backward-looking promotional piece for Apple products. I don't "hate" the promotion, I just think it's a big mistake, and not in keeping with what Steve Jobs wanted Apple to be -- which is a company that's always looking forward. As far as "C-listers", you don't know anything at all about me, so it's pretty damn laughable that you would be in any position to judge whether or not I should have an opinion on the subject. Irregardless, I have an opinion. Deal with it!

Apple has high standards - absolutely. But they're also very capable of making mistakes; as much as I like their products, I can at least recognize times when they've fallen short, which has frankly been an increasing theme in more recent years. And that obviously gets the obsequious cultists bent pretty far out of shape.

This isn't Google Chrome, Apple doesn't just toss out version numbers willy nilly!
