Does anyone know of an external ata to scsi raid solution for the mac (2 actually). I want to hook up my 2 G4's to an external raid tower, but I am not sure what the best one is and I want the drives to be ATA. I know Promise Technology, INC. makes some, but I don't know if I can put 2 macs to there towers.

Any advice would be great

Search for Medea RAIDS. I think they might have some models that will work for you.

Thanks for the advice. I sent them questions because it dosent look like the raid towers support ATA. For the ammount of storage I want, it still looks pretty pricy

    Thanks again

Have you tried Ganite Digital at <a href="http://www.scsipro.com"; target="_blank">www.scsipro.com</a> ?

Ya, I tried Granite Digital, one of the firs things I looked at, but it only gives me 40MB a sec... I am dealing with photoshop files between 200-600MB sometimes, and I open several at a time to have some for reference.

    Thanks again though

    No no, not a <a href="http://www.apple-history.com/quickgallery.html?where=g4cube.html"; target="_blank">cube</a>, a <a href="http://www.sancube.com/"; target="_blank">cube.</a>

Yes, I say Sancube's a couple of years ago and I was impressed. I am just wondering how fast it really is? With firewire, I never seem to get the speeds that is advertised. For example, when I transfer very large files from Mac to Mac, I set the one MAc as a Target. I think the maximum speed I've ever seen was like 5MB a sec, about 10% of the 50 MB it's capable of. And no I don't have slow drives... I think a sancube is going to be great when firewire2 or so comes out. External firewire solutions for raid are the way to go I think, but the speed just has to pick up.
