There's an interesting article there that I've already posted on many other (non-Mac ) sites. I'm interested to hear AppleInsider's opinion of it.

Ugh. The entertainment industry always has to have the monopoly on creative endeavors. Imagine how much money they made because of VCRs, which they originally fought against? Now, videos are a big industry that makes a lot of money. Same with radio. Same with TV (!!!!). Seriously, they should take a good long look at the track record and just let everything slide. Considering they've always fought technologies that end up making them piles of money, they should just predict that allowing everything to go by will again make them a lot of money.

From what I gathered from the article, it seems like most new technologies that allow the recording, transfer, and playback of audio and visual media have been allowed because although they could be used illegally, they also have legitimate uses. Now they want to make it so if it can be used illegally, it's automatically illegal? So now, hmm, everything I own except my large furniture is illegal by that standard. I could use my computer to commit fraud! I could use my card to crash into a store and rob it! I could even use my stereo system to smash someone's head!

This is just ridiculous, but I'm afraid that the government will go along with it, because everyone currently involved is an ignorant pinhead who doesn't understand the first thing about technology. Those big-shot electronics and computer companies need to band together and take a stand against this!

I can understand the reason people are fearful about the music industry. I never use my CD player anymore I just run everything through my computer. You can also tell what CDs I actually own too because they are all mp4s

The movie industry is a whole other case though. Personally I hate watching movies on my computer. I like going to the movies. The only way I can see this changing is if I buy myself a projector and set it up like that. I just don't see the threat being as real...of course I suppose if you had a copy you could go for piracy and sell it but people could do that with the VCR.

Frankly I don't see what hollywood is worried about but that may be because I don't care about the industry.
