WBZ Radio 1030 confirmed this yesterday. IDG will even try to bring in cruise ships if hotels won't play ball this year or next. Boston would waive the extra costs associated with this and provide free convention centers. IDG really wants to move Macworld back.

It looks like Macworld is on it's way back to Boston.

applenut, it was not Apple that moved the expo.

In fact, it was Apple that wanted it in Boston in the first place.

Don't be in denial- this move is inevitable.

I hope they move it to Toronto so I can heckle a live keynote at least once in my life.

Forgive me for being out of the loop, but "moved the expo?" So are you saying that either MWSF or MWNY were originally MWBoston? And if it comes back to Boston, will one of those disappear?

    Sorry for the stupid question.

MWNY was Macworld Boston. You remember Macworld Boston as the expo with Bill Gates on the big screen.

The expo was moved to New York but it was only supposed to be temporary until Boston finished the convention center. This year, the Javitz people really ticked off IDG and they want to move it back to Boston a year early.

So Macworld Boston would replace MWNY again.

I didn't know that, thanks, Fran. The Javitz people = people associated with NY?

The Javits Center is New York City's convention center. It's privately managed (with a long term contract) but owned by the city.

Remember, next to the Bay Area, the Boston area has the greatest per capita Mac userbase.

Bawstan? I think the whole media presence of NY is a better proposal than bean town. Just being in NY brings more attention (IMHO) then again, given Apple's recent hardwar troubles and the unshakeable expectation of NEW hardware at expos, they may want a little less attention.

Besides the ImacNY banners are too kool to abandon.

Tomorrow is the big day that this deal might get hammered down. More info at:

Well, since the convention center won't be open till 2004, that means we'll have at least one more MWNY.

No. The deal would move Macworld back next year to Boston with the same arrangements, but the show would be at the Hynes Convention Center for this show.

Boston wants the show back and IDG wants it in Boston ASAP. That's why they don't have a deal with New York and the Javitz Center already.

Where did you read about it coming back next year? Is Hynes the place they originally had it that was so small they had to have it in 2 places, across town from each other. That was stupid. I really hope it doesn't happen until 2004 when the new, larger convention center opens.

No. The show used to be held between the Bayside Expo Center and the World Trade Center (Boston).

The Hynes is larger than those two and could hold the show.

    From an older article:

[quote]IDG World Expo is considering moving the show to Boston in 2003 and using the Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center for one year

If they were really planning to have the show in New York next year, then why are they sitting on the offer and not accepting it? To make the deal sweeter? No. They want to see what Boston will offer them and if it's a good deal, Macworld will be back in Boston in 2003.
