I have officially SWITCHED!!!!

I am proud to say, I am not only an apple user in mind, but in body too(well 2-3 weeks) I placed my order at the apple store like 3 minutes ago. 17" iMac with 512,1 dimm sdram and an airport card installed. An external floppy drive, and the extended apple care protection plan.

There's this odd tingle I have now, and a blooming hatred for the PC that I still use(for 2-3 weeks). Currently the beige formica desk that my iMac will be sitting on is primed and waiting to be painted a gorgeous titanium color(benjamin moore 'ice cube grey') to match my grey and white room(all painted today and yesterday) I can't believe I actually designed my bedroom around a computer, but I guess it is the center piece (competing with my record player)

Is there any must-have software(dear god, let it be inexpensive)?, I am ordering Norton System works, and adobe digital video colection is in the mail(500 dolors at an educational reseller!!!!!!!! ) Anything else I should just get?. . .

YAY!!! <img src="graemlins/surprised.gif" border="0" alt="[Surprised]" /> (i can't beleive i've spent over 3,000 dollors in the last 24 hours)

Welcome to the club. Once you go Mac you won't go back.... I dunno how you can be so happy about spening 3000$ dollars though you have to have some kind of sick feeling well actually I didn't regret spending 2500$ all together when I went and bought my iBook either but I did get sick when I spent 2300$ on my old XP 1ghz p3 laptop which I no longer own any more. Download Brickhouse so you can modifie your firewall easily.

If I have a small 3-4 computer wireless network including the Orinoco bg-2000 gateway wireless server do I really need firewall software?, what will this do?

Your "gateway" has a firewall built-in and preconfigured to keep all incoming traffic out. If you need to setup port forwarding (so you can access your network from the outside), there is a web-based configuration interface.

Besides Office, I haven't really bought software for my Mac. Although I did buy The Sims, Livin' Large, and American McGee's Alice. All very great games if you're into gaming...

    Welcome

When i was switching.... i started to hate winzoz soooo much.. but i didn't have money so i just decided i didnt want to format at least once a month.. i 'simply' installed RedHat on my old laptop.. and made it behave like OS

It's not bad.. just that when i found the drivers to the lucent modem i switched to an adsl modem ...

    Now the Macs are luvly

Ehehe! The friends are tellong i'm different since i switched... happier etc

I really find it odd how switchers in either direction end up totally disgusted with their previous platforms. I think it would be hard to get along with people like that in real life...people who display that dodgy kind of born-again behavior. You never know when they might snap back and do a complete 180 on you.

...like that left-wing nut who became a right-wing nut...David Horowitz? No, not the consumer advocate one with the Fight Back TV show. Heh.

I'm totally disgusted with two of the three platforms I use, but I still use all three.

Can't name any must-have software without knowing what you will be doing, but I would consider Norton System Works to be a "don't-need" piece of software.

Last time I checked I wasn't paying for WindowShade X.
