yeah, what do these guys know about selling things. heck, their first iphome commercial just had people, saying "hello?"

Right because Apple can never make mistakes. Those genius ads were something else.

which is probably why (I'm going to guess) you don't work in advertising but instead question all of Phil schiller's marketing efforts at all times.

people know what the test pattern is, even if they don't know the name for it. it's in movies and sketches all the time. YouTube still uses snow patterns even tho most TVs don't show those anymore either.

And the point of the test pattern is? And Phil Schiller has signed off on plenty of Apple ads that are 'meh' along with plenty that are really good. The Shot on iPhone 6 campaign was brilliant. I think these new 15 second ?Watch ads are great as are the iPhone 6S ads. But I think this a misfire, like the new iPad Pro ad and like the genius ads from a few years ago.

if Apple made all the mistakes you constantly claim it's making, they'd be broke by now. instead they just keep selling more and more. guess they just don't get it that they're making so many mistakes, huh?

the original iPhone ad didn't even show the product.

I'm not sure why Apple thinks ads with a Test Card pattern are going to get people to buy an Apple TV

Apple just knows stuff us mortals respond to.

Apple doesn't do ads, they do campaigns. I still remember the iPod campaigns in Chicago many years ago, that were at many of the train stops. iPods, many years ago, and if I described them, you'd say, "Oh yeah, I remember those..."

Seven years on and we both remember those ads... A company really gets their marketing dollar's worth when an ad has such legs...

A test card pattern would at least be humorous after the Year of Bugs.

It's pretty obvious the team that worked on Apple Pencil is not the same team that worked on Apple TV. The fact that the remote app hasn't been updated yet nor has Apple authorized use of Bluetooth keyboards, along with Siri still only being able to do basic things makes this product very 'meh' right now. On one of his podcasts Jason Snell talked about the care Apple puts into its packaging and how opening an Apple product is an experience. He lamented that Apple doesn't seem to carry that experience all the way through to getting a product set up these days. And I get what he means. Typing in passwords on AppleTV is a crappy experience. Setting up an iOS device and constantly having to enter your Apple ID password is a crappy experience. Apple really needs to do something to make this a more seamless and less painful process.

A lot of the pain points right now are coming from Eddy Cue's org. I've said it before and I'll say it again I'm not convinced he's cutting it in the role he has. Either he's got too much on his plate or he's not up to the job. Google just hired the co-founder of VMware to run their cloud business. I think it would be a good idea if Tim Cook hired someone to run Apple's cloud business. Then Eddy could focus his attention on ?TV, Apple Music and App Store, all of which need attention.

You really need to look into getting more fiber in your diet.

    give me a break.
Go on your little cry baby rant somewhere else....

(goes back to playing Super Mario World on Apple TV)
Unless you own the Super Mario World cartridge isn't using an emulator to install and play it on your Apple TV technically IP theft? I seem to remember you making the point you thought accessing content using a VPN (ie paid NBA League Pass subscription) wasn't proper just a couple weeks back. Your use of an emulator seems more questionable than using a VPN. You're not paying Nintendo anything for their game are you?

I am so sick of them promoting a Beta Version!!! They are still trolling for more Beta Testers for their Hobby project!!! I'd love to buy one if it worked as good as previous versions do...No iPhone Remote? No Siri Search for Music? No BT Keyboard support....they are joking right?

Big difference between playing a 20-30 year old game that has close to zero value today to a LIVE TV BROADCAST of an NBA game.
An NBA game that was subscribed to and paid for (NBA League Pass $200) ?

    You know nothing about marketing.
    Leave it to the professionals.
Theres a reason why Schiller makes $10 million a year and you don't.

And Steve Ballmer is one of the richest men in the world. What's your point?

Yes.  Because the TV stations in his area paid MILLIONS for the rights to those games in HIS MARKET.

But go ahead.  I see you don't care about that stuff.

What ever lets you sleep at night.  But he is breaking the law.
What law would that be? I think it's simply a violation of the TOS. By the way, what does the Apple TV TOS say about Apple TV software and copyrighted content? Is it discussed?

    He knows what he's doing.

If he wasn't breaking the law there would be no reason for him to go through all those hoops and pay $$$ each month for a proxy.

I paid $99 for NBA pass. You think I'm happy someone else gets to pay less by breaking the law?
Pay less? How so. The content is only being accessed with a paid subscription, not stolen. AAMOF I paid more than you for a subscription to the entire schedule. You apparently are paying for a single team,. (which should have been $119 I believe but who's counting pennies, right)?

Actually I paid $120 for one team only.
Fair enough. As we were and point made. Sorry for the thread distraction.

It does seem like Apple is seriously ramping up advertising for a number of its products at the moment and using several types of media to do it. Gotta spend it to make it.

    It's so funny how this thread just devolved into a hissy fight (don't they all; I guess?). <img class=" src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" /><img class=" src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />

The excuses made for Apple.... I can't even.

    "It's just a fuckin billboard"
Heh yeah, a giant billboard and a giant ad covering the side of a building are nothing! Apple didn't take them seriously and no one will notice!

I hear this excuse a lot in defense of Apple. Kinda ironic response. Apple does something then fans claim it's nothing really.

And that was one of the greatest phone commercials of all time.

It DID show the product. That was the best part.
I guess you ever seen it then.
