Why in the name of the Lord is that RAM so expensive?

Looking to spice up my iBook a bit, but look what I find:

<a href="http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/configurator/modelsinfo.asp?SysID=+11264+&distributor=0&submit= Find" target="_blank">Kingston</a>

The 512 MB module is roughly FOUR (i.e. 4 ) times the price of the 256 one, which, IMO is useless.

Oh well, anyone know of any other, viable, cheapo, alternatives (which I wouldn't regret)?

Is it worth it anyway (640 MB ram vs. 256 now, to walk my Jaguar)?

    <a href="http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.asp?cat=RAM&mfr=Apple&productline=iBook&; model=iBook+%28600MHz%29" target="_blank">Crucial</a>'s cheaper.

Probably due to smaller sales or the fact that they know that users wanting to max out will pay more to do so.

Other World Computing has a pretty good reputation (I've bought two items there, including one 256MB RAM module), and their prices are also really low. Not the absolute lowest you can get, but a good deal nonetheless. If you want the absolute cheapest RAM, go to ramseeker.com or dealram.com and look around. But OWC is pretty good. 256MB is $60, 512MB is $120.

    Thanks for the links.

That OWC is half the price of the other two (crucial, Kingston). How is this possible (not that I'm ungrateful for it...)?

And how do I buy that stuff over here in Europe?

    <a href="http://www.pricewatch.com/1/33/3113-1.htm"; target="_blank">Pricewatch.com</a> has lower prices listed. $65 for 512mb. Not bad.

I wouldn't trust most of the shops who are listed on pricewatch.

OWC is good stuff. I'd trust them instead of buying from a crook to save a few bucks.

Kingston is more expensive because 1) They have one of, if not the best reputation in the RAM market today and 2) Their RAM is the best. I have never had a bad stick of Kingston RAM ever. As oposed to Azen RAM of which I got three bad sticks in a row. I will never buy Azen again.
