Seybold 2002 - Do Phil Schiller & Chris Borden HATE Each Other Or What?

Posted:

OK, so maybe it's just me, but I just watched the Seybold 2002 keynote with Phil Schiller, it sorta seems like Phil's not loved in Apple - but ya know, the guy's job can't be easy ... so if that's true I'm not going to take sides, it's gotta be tough when every time you walk on stage, everybody sighs with palpable dissappointment 'cause it ain't Uncle Steve.

Regardless ... I'm watching the Seybold demo, and on comes Chris Borden (I think I heard his name right) ... Chris does an excellent demo of both Quartz extreme and other technologies, he's eloquent, he's personable, he's understandable ...

And it seems like he and Phil HATE each other!

I mean, just start watching the Seybold 2002 video after about 42:40, everything starts off fine before this, but around this point ( about half way thru), the body language and voice tone between these two starts getting a little strained whenever they address each other - the clearest thing I can point to takes place just after 42:40, when Chris invites Phil over and takes his picture on a Nikon D1X using the OSX image capture application. Listen to words and tone Chris uses to descibe Phil's picture, and especially what he does to Phil's "Mug" (it sounded like "Bug", but I think "Mug" is what he meant, not that that makes it all that much better) ...

And then listen to Phil's response:

"Thanks for deleting me Chris"

Check it out for yourself, I mean, it's subtle, but not THAT subtle.

Just keep watching, the tone between these two doesn't seem to get any better.

To Phil's credit, he "Thanked" Chris with the line above, and acted as if nothing had happened - and who knows, maybe nothing did happen ... but I don't think so.

Watch it for yourself.

Something's up.

    Great find <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />

Although I have NEVER liked that Schiller guy (he's really a proselite who always tells you what exactly it is that you should think. Seeing Schiller... think different my ass).

So, to recap, although I have never liked that Schiller guy, I think he's gonna personally boot someone come monday.

    I love Phil Schiller!

A whole keynote of him rocks my world.

Whoever hates Phil Schiller just hates himself.

I like Phil. More "european" than Steve ***duck***.

I just have one issue with him. Once and a while please try to to STAND STILL DAMMIT

He uses to much mental capabilities to think "go left, now go right, left again..."

Go Phil! His leap from the roof was one of the defining moments of Macintosh.

And of all the Executive and Senior VPs, Phil Schiller seems to be being groomed to take over as the public face of Apple when Jobs goes. Yup.

Fear Phil, for he will rule! Bwahahaha!

[Edit: Uh, sorry, too much peanut butter, I think.]

It's a running joke. When Steve demoed iChat at MWNY, he didn't have Phil Schiller in his iChat buddy list and Phil was very sad. Phil seemed pretty jolly at the Jaguar launch party in Palo Alto, heh.

Jeez, look at him... it's like that Tim Allen guy from Home Improvement. Sure he might be liked by middle-aged women, but an icon of Apple Inc.? not a chance.

Apparantly Steve wouldn't be y'all's preferred son-in-law, but at least he has a bit of self-confidence, even if he wears clothes that would make any man, as old as he is, look and feel ridiculous.

What is wrong with you people?

Some day, Jonathan Ive will take over Steve Jobs' position at Apple. And you can clearly see it in this photo:

Jobs is a businessman, a master at making sales-pitches.

Ive is not, at least not from what I can tell.

    Oh, come on, Eugene.

We ALL know that Ive *is* the next man in line.

edit: Yes, it's sarcasm. I don't really think Ive would handle the job well either. He's best at designing furniture and toilets and computery stuff.
