I was just cheecking my server logs and I noticed a trend with the links from from the pic I posted on this board. More than half of the views come from Windows PCs. I thought this was really odd. I know this isn't scientific and a lot you have PCs at work or just arround for various resons, but wow.

Oh, and on a side not I was the only linux user I saw glancing through.

    What pic?

Also, remember that several browsers can identify themselves as a different browser running on another platform.

Couldn't we put some sort of filter on AI so that it couldn't be viewed by Windows users?

We should be welcoming Window's users so we can help them to make the switch using our knowledge and charisma.

Yea, some of us are stuck during the day on PCs.

Sorry guys, I have to admit, I work with Windows where I consult. They are a Unix and Windows shop and I don't see Macs around, so I use their HP windows 2000 junk to surf AI.

I have Macs and Linux at home, and I'm a true Machead. I just got a voice mail from my girlfriend and she's sick and tired of her PC laptop crashing. Its taken over 6 months of convincing her (Switch Ads helped alot), so she's asking for advise on which mac to get

Another switch, my long time friend just bought a new eMac this week. This was his first Mac ever. He's pretty excited and unloaded is PC for a few hundred bucks.

    Doing my part

I have to use Windows ('95, FFS, the cheap b******s!) at work every day. Someone is punishing me...

Oh, yeah, this is on a Compaq Armada M300 with not enough RAM and more racket from the fan and hard drive than my G4 Cube has ever made (and that has a fan in it too...).

Still, I've managed to reorganise the desktop into a reasonable facsimile of OS 9 so I can just about use it.

I would much prefer a JunkyardDawg filter.

Oh, glorious day that would be.

    Yeah seriously... Be nice.

I have to have a pc as mandated by my major. Apparently, the engineering profession (or just the VT engineering deptartment) is very anti-mac. Just cause i use a pc doesnt mean that i like it, nor does it mean that i don't like macs--I love macs, i grew up on them.

I'd be the first person to encourage others to get a mac if they can. BUt a lot of them are like me and cannot! Don't rush to judgement.

I use windows everyday at home and at work. I used to use macs at school and they were great, but not on my tab. Funny thing is, that the depts I used to work for are one by one coming to the same conclusions. Lots of macs are getting replaced with Dells.

Windows98SE works fine at home for all Office tasks, CD burning is slow but reliable, Web browsing and e-mail are flawless, MP3 decent. Everything just works.

WindowsXP, which I don't use at home, to be honest, annoys me -- A LOT. It's always trying to help me do something, and ussually just gets in the way. Basic tasks are buried two, three, even four clicks down in a maze of control bars. NOT GOOD!

I had previously been saying that platforms didn't matter for pros because your apps essentially became your platform, but WinXP seems to go out of it's way to get in your way. What was true of 98SE and NT might not be true of WinXP. I'll have to try it with some more important apps to see what happens. I don't understand how anyone could argue that XP is better than NT. <img src="graemlins/oyvey.gif" border="0" alt="[No]" />

Still, if XP can at least keep itself out of your pro 'suites' -- be they graphics or A/V -- then it's tolerable, but the interface has taken a step back. Put the icons for the apps you need on the desktop and minimize your actual interaction with XP. That's the best way to use it.

I sure hope Apple sorts out their price performance issues soon.

    XP is NT 5.1

First things you do in XP.

Control Panels -&gt; Folder Options -&gt; Classic Windows Folders

Start Menu Properties -&gt; Classic Start Menu

And if you really hate the big blue look (I dislike it, don't hate it).

    Display properties -&gt; Classic Windows

It's like being in Win2k, which is good.

I use a 700 MHz PIII PC at work and a 500 MHz iMac at home. Both with 256 MB of RAM. Both needs 512 MB at least. And both perform about the same.

    Just slower and more annoying.

Disagree with the argument that XP is good because "YOU CAN TURN OFF ALL DA CRAP BAEBAY" err so your just left with a sluggish version of 2K with the odd stupid feature and some spyware? WOW why even unpack?

My school is about to become an information technology specialist school, god knows how as all they're computers are Windoze PCs.

I had to specifically choose subjects that we would use the computers in the least for GCSE because I HATE using Windoze so much, It drives me insane, it just Doesn't work. Maybe it would help if our head of I.T wasn't an unreasoned Mac Hater, what part of "System X doesn't crash" don't people understand.

They have a "100% secure system" which can be hacked into ANY part of with just one word! When is the world going to realise that PCs are just a cheap copy of real computers?

    Andrew

Yes I know unreasoned isn't actually a word but I can't think of the proper one.

PowerMac is to Windoze PC as Ferrari is to Austin Allegro
