    This is worse than ridiculous.

It's just another attempt at fear-mongering and getting the less-intelligent segment of the general population on board with giving up their rights.  It would be completely laughable if that particular segment of the general population weren't so large...

A third co-conspirator?  What?  One that only got involved in the last 4 weeks since the iPhone was last backed up?  One that figured it was better to communicate on a work phone instead of the personal phone?  One which exclusively texted with iMessage - so there are no records of any phone calls available from the provider - or emails available from his ISP?

It sounds like something fabricated entirely in fantasy-land.  It wouldn't surprise me if this DA suggested the virus could be loaded into the the iPhone via its SD card or USB port.  (If he's going to make shit up - he may as well give the phone capabilities it doesn't have too!)

Seriousliy.  This idiot should be forced to produce reasonable cause for the asinine intimations or be relieved of his position.  Someone in his position should definitely not be allowed to make shut up out of thin air and then communicate it to the media.  His job title gives his ridiculous claims an air of credibility that they most certainly do NOT deserve.

In an amicus brief filed with a California court on Thursday, San Bernardino District Attorney Michael A. Ramos intimates an iPhone used by terror suspect Syed Rizwan Farook, and later seized by law enforcement officials, might contain evidence of a "dormant cyber pathogen" threatening the county's data infrastructure.

The curious statement was made in reference to an unspecified threat in violation of California Penal Code Section ?502 covering protections against tampering, interference, damage and unauthorized access to computer systems. Specifically, Ramos says the iPhone in question could contain evidence "that it was used as a weapon to introduce a lying dormant cyber pathogen that endangers San Bernardino County's infrastructure." Beyond that, no other details are offered.

Can a "a lying dormant cyber pathogen that endangers San Bernardino County's infrastructure" be any worse than the active lying District Attorney that San Bernardino County already have in place?

Yes, because an iPhone that likely has (or had) only limited access to the company network is the ideal way to get a "cyber pathogen" into the county's infrastructure. Apparently they think that's easier than the guy just walking into the office and plugging an infected thumb drive into someone's PC?

Are they saying it might be "dormant" to give a sense of urgency that it could wake up and attack at any moment? If that's what they're worried about, shouldn't they just pull the SIM and kep it off the wifi?

They're counting on the fear and stupidity of the public and the courts to believe this nonsense.

I had a tough day. I really needed a good laugh. That ridiculous explanation from the DA did it. Thanks buddy!

It's hard to take the government's side seriously when this tripe is coming out. I want to believe that they're just trying to catch criminals, but obvious (to me, at least) scare tactics make me question their motives.

Dormant = not active. It sounds ominous, but really means nothing. In fact, it's better than it's inactive than it is active.
Cyber = internet or web. Again, choosing a more ominous word for something common.
Pathogen = virus or worm. Again, a pretty common thing with a very ominous name.

So dormant cyber pathogen = computer virus.

So all the statement says is that there might be an inactive computer virus on the phone. That sounds odd, too, but at least it's something we've all had to deal with. From "dormant cyber virus", we're meant to let our imaginations fill in the ominous sounding words with doomsday scenarios like taking down the power grid or something.

You can tell lawyers came up with this nonsense because it's at once true at the same time it's completely misleading.

I thought given the way iMessage works that Apple would have been able to give the AppleID and account details of someone who was in iMessage contact with the suspect.
Sure no message content seeing it's end to end encrypted but initial contact list request happens on Apple servers.

Or in other words the FBI would already have this information and this is more BS.

FN mill-gens: no respect for law, no respect for order, no respect for those who have served for your convenience, and right to disagree... but guess what? There are more of us who have served, who love this country, who care for goodness, who pay taxes and don't have the time for your fucking snarky ignorance. Yes, believe it or not, you didn't 'invent' any of the things you see... there are still surprisingly more of us who believe in the rights of 14 innocent people murdered by these demons, (now permanent residents of the Hell), in a broad daylight, in cold blood! Time for class (the one your skipped) b/c the 'Common good' will come before your mere convenience, and faux outrage... the 4th protects us all against 'unreasonable search and seizure' (read it!) ... there is NOTHING at all unreasonable about opening ONE phone to gather intelligence about the possible connections of these evil f@#Ks! Apple is delaying the inevitable ... and what they are doing is minimally is 'obstructing a Federal Investigation,' which is in itself a Crime. Oh, and we ARE still a Nation of Laws, whether you subscribe to anarchy, socialism, individual relativism, or just narcissism... Justice will and does prevail... in this life, or the finally in the NEXT! Yup, I'm sayin' it...God IS and... your violent lack of belief will never change that. So get on board, think about someone other than yourself, or prepare to 'dress lightly' for some bad-ass eternal humid-heat! Peace, and may the Good Lord freely convince you to choose Him! OK, now attack me ;)
Apple offered to crack the phone. Govt rejected that. They want the key to EVERYONES phone.  Big difference

fear not, all iPhones are equipped with anti "dominant cyber pathogen" feature.  Simply type "1234" ten times into the lock screen and the pathogen will be neutralized.  You are welcome.

C'mon really? Noooo body? That's actually good because I too like a good laugh at the interactions of government, but it is made up of people who are less than perfect like me, like you too... but I do believe that when it comes to clear terrorism, and the death of innocents, we all agree there's Nothing to laugh at for these victims, those in Paris, Turkey, and around the world. It is an equal opportunity destroyer, and must be stopped by us all, in how we act, what we say, and ultimately how we think... because all actions first happen in the mind. So peace to you all, thanks for playin', be safe, and take care of each other...;O

Shaaat. Hurry, it has been three months now and you have been sitting idle. FBI better beg the NSA for their iPhone hacking technology or else you are in big trouble! Ask the NSA to do it. Do not touch it or you will screw it up again. FBI you suck.

Interesting way to call something the same as an undiscovered computer virus. Oh wait, this is Apple, so it's likely a rogue PDF attachment email bot or "Automator Script" which changes the iPhone Helvetica and "San Francisco" fonts to a strange font that looks like 3l33t hax0r text.

Sounds like they are grasping at straws. Do they have evidence of that in the iCloud backups they have? People need to remember that this was an employer issued iPhone, not his personal iPhone. His personal phone and computers were destroyed.
Right!  The reason they even knew to do that was all the public noise FBI and others had been making about encryption the last 6-8 months. Idiots are teaching the public what they can and can't do. Dumb, just dumb.

And featured this month on MongrelDumbass.com

*San Bernardino District Attorney Michael A. Ramos*

He Wears a Cape and Fights Crime (and Cyber Pathogens)

I wonder if he realizes that he's implying that the idiot FBI can't get anything into the phone but... ISIS can?  or maybe he thinks "cyber pathogens" came in on the Andromeda Meteorite...

or maybe...  Never-mind, the most stupid crap I can think up still isn't as stupid as this guy.
