Can you recommend a good PC Forum?

First, sorry to ask this here. Im a Mac man to the end. And Ive learned so much at Appleinsider. But my son has a PC and he's champ at Counter Strike but can't even plug in the computer. I know many of you are dual platformers; can you recommend a site that is rather a PC counterpart to AI? I want him to learn how to diagnose and fix problems on XP. God knows how important that is on Wintels. I was surprised that PC World didnt have forums. (that I saw anyway)

Thank you in advance.

Ars Technica has a very active set of forums, in addition to a nice set of articles on a variety of topics in general. If he wants to read more on PC components and technologies, AnandTech and ExtremeTech are also very good sites, alhtough I don't know how active/good their forums are.

Second vote for ArsTechnica. They have a pretty good Mac forum over there amongst the PC/Linux ones.

Thank you MCQ and Grover. Ive checked it out and it seems to have a good mix of novice and expert posts. I noticed something interesting. Under the OS forums, there wasn't a separate one for Windows XP. I believe there was an NT/Win2000 category. Is XP considered a version of NT? Curious. In any case, there were XP posts in that category.

By the way, the first time I saw Ars mentioned in these forums, I thought is was an attempt to say "ass" without getting censored. Don't tell anyone.

Finally, it seems to me that the support of the Apple community on the 'Net is way beyond our numbers compared to the WinTel users. Is my impression accurate?

XP is the latest version of NT code. ME is the last version of Win9x code.

The Arsians are a good bunch.

I personally won't go back to Tom's hardware for any reason. Not after he or his lackey's photoshopped a pic to get a 'scoop', not to mention lots of hits.

BTW, [h]ardforums is pretty childish, Ars and Anandtech are alright.

Tom's faked P4 (they later admitted it, but I have to run, so this is the only link I could find before I leave for work this AM):

    <a href="http://www.aceshardware.com/forum?read=80032821"; target="_blank">http://www.aceshardware.com/forum?read=80032821</a>;

this was from before it was admitted.

edit: Ok, so i found the other link...

Here's another vote for Ars. They also have the only respectable mac forums. psst, you might want to keep him out of the velvet room; it's up to you.

    Ars Technica owns me.

I have more posts there than I do here.

Seriously, there are a lot of very intelligent people there and I've never had a question go unanswered. Make sure to read the posting guidelines first though...they have some specific rules that they sctrictly enforce.

Again, thank you all. I went back to ars technica and read (okay, skimmed) the article on Jaguar. I was tired the next morning either because I stayed up an extra hour reading it or I was just mentally beat trying to absorb all the info. It was the most in-depth review of anything Ive encountered on the web. I understood 10% but any site that has work of that quality gets my bookmark. Like I need another computer site addiction.

I will read their posting rules, Macaddict, but I'll do a lot more reading than posting. It took me a year to post here. Rumors got me hooked but now I read more for the support.
