When was their last "big round of layoffs"? They've made it this far without having to layoff too many people.

I wonder how many people could keep their jobs with even a quarter of Jobs' salary?

The new tradition of modern corporation is that profits be protected from all but the executive. God only knows the shareholders seldom see them.

But he has made some HUGE bonuses outside of his salary, including something like a $40 billion bonus in the last quarter.

That's some good going on revenue of $5.4bn... perhaps the shareholders should be told? <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />

40 billion !!! That seals it: Off with his head!

Yeah, I think it was something like 42 million. When an exec board pulls in similar (or more) cash than the yearly net profits I think some hard questions are in order. Unfortunately, Apple is no different than the overwhelming majority of corporations out there in this respect. It seems executive profits have firmly displaced 'net' profits in the modern corporate culture.

Lets see, a mistake of 1000x on the bonus, were we to overstate how much Apple has in the bank by that much they would be have approximately 4 trillion dollars, which would be about 14 times more than Microsoft's total worth, or 105 times what Microsoft has in the bank.

    Ah, I can dream.

If I remember correctly, the 4X million was part of a two-year deal to pay for the Plane and income taxes on the plane the board gifted Steve in late 2000 (?). The plane total was around 90million, so 45 million would probably mean two years.

Steve earned $1 in salary each of his years back at Apple.

Steve was granted many millions in stock options at around $50 per share when apple was trading at $70 a share. IF Steve gets the share price back above $50, I'd hand-deliver those options to him, grinning from ear to ear. He'd deserve them!

I guess the whole point is Steve Jobs is making less than what he actually could make. He didn't have to take a $1 salary. Even though he is getting a fat bonus every year he has done a lot for Apple in the last 5 years.
