As previously announced, Apple on Thursday activated online preorder sales for its new 4-inch iPhone SE and 9.7-inch iPad Pro in 13 territories, including key markets in North America, Europe and Asia.

Sales went live on Apple.com and through the Apple Store app at about 12:01 a.m. Pacific, 3:01 a.m. Eastern, with initial supply for both products seemingly keeping pace with demand. Apple announced the iPhone SE and new iPad Pro form factor at a special event on Monday.

For today's launch, Apple is opening orders up to 13 regions around the world before the devices land in stores on March 31. Rollout territories include Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Singapore, the UK, US Virgin Islands and the U.S. In China, initial iPad Pro availability is limited to models with Wi-Fi only, though cellular versions are expected to ship in the near future.

Apple plans to expand iPhone SE and iPad Pro sales in April to cover another 47 countries including Albania, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Cayman Islands, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, El Salvador, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Greenland, Guam, Guatemala, Hungary, Iceland, India, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Lichtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Macau, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey and UAE. Customers in Macau and Thailand will be limited to Wi-Fi iPad Pro models.

As for specs, the iPhone SE borrows much of its technology from Apple's flagship iPhone 6s series. The diminutive iPhone runs a speedy A9 processor with embedded M9 motion coprocessor and sports a 12-megapixel iSight camera, Touch ID and NFC for touchless Apple Pay transactions, advanced wireless communications hardware and more. Color options include silver, Space Gray, gold and rose gold.

Pricing starts at just $399 for 16 gigabytes of onboard storage, or $499 for 64GB. Buyers can also take advantage of Apple's new Trade Up with Installments plan, which brings payments down to as little as $10 per month for 24 months, depending on trade in value. Wireless carriers are also offering payment plans through their respective Web portals.

Apple's new 9.7-inch iPad Pro brings the full-size form factor in line with last year's 12.9-inch iPad Pro. The refreshed tablet now boasts specialized hardware supporting Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard accessories, while adding on new-for-iPad features like a 12MP iSight camera with flash and Apple's True Tone display.

The 9.7-inch iPad Pro comes in at $599 for a 32GB Wi-Fi only version, $749 for 128GB of storage and $899 for the new 256GB option. Step-up Wi-Fi + Cellular variants are priced at $729, $879 and $1029 for 32GB, 128GB and 256GB storage capacities, respectively. Customers can choose from silver, Space Gray, gold and rose gold colors.

Got an iPhone SE 64GB Space Grey. Trading up from an iPhone 6. Been saying I wanted a smaller phone for about 18 months. Finally put my money where my mouth is.

Got my 128GB Wifi + Cellular Pro ordered. Tried to do in store pickup because that's usually easier for me but it wasn't an option this time for some reason. Also tried to order from Best Buy because I'm a reward elite plus member, but the pre-orders were only for the wifi only models for some reason. Oh well.
Gotta add though, 70 bucks for a silicone back and 50 bucks for a new Smart Cover is pretty ridiculous. Back when the smart case was made of leather, I sort of got that pricing, but silicone and neoprene aren't worth 120 bucks.

Tell me about it. They should offer a leather smart 'case' for $69 total again.

Got mine too. Since it is the same dimensions as an Air2, I presume any case for that will work, right? I don't have to worry about the Smart connector as I don't plan to add a keyboard.

Ordered the same for my wife to replace her 5s. Heck I might even just swap it into her case and wait for her to notice. That could be a bit of fun.

Same dimension I believe, but wouldn't an Air 2 case cover up the Pro's extra speakers?

I can tell your wife doesn't use fingerprint. Assume that you know her passcode and iCloud credentials to restore the backup to new phone with the same color, I don't think she'll notice it.

What an awesome deal for $399.  Too bad I already have 2 iPhones.

Why the heck a person has 2 phones?

Good point. Thanks. I forgot about that. I guess I'll just use my old case until the 3rd-party leather cases start arriving.

Price is listed through Apple France as 489 euros... which is US549 at today's exchange rate, or $150 extra for the same item bought through Apple USA!

I can think of one answer from an old English joke, told by comedian Ken Dodd, about a well-endowed woman wanting directions to a certain Northern town... Woman: "Can you tell me the way to Oldham?" Old man: "Yes madam... one in each hand!"

In the UK its about $507 USD

But don't blame Apple that other currencies have been in the tank the last 2 years.

Plus you can't expect Apple to sell iPhones for the same price in a foreign country as the USA.  All business do this because of tax breaks and added costs to sell in a foreign country.  Look at how much cheaper BMW's are in Germany vs USA.  Many people in the USA fly to Germany to buy their BMW and take a 2 week vacation. They say the savings from buying the car in Germany was more than their airfare, hotel, ect staying in Europe.

So you can blame your government for crappy currency monitoring and tarriffs.  I'm pretty sure Apple does not make more profit selling an iPhone in France/UK than in the USA.

Sure, I agree with your assessment... here in France there's a 20% "value added tax" on almost everything which, like it or loathe it, one cannot avoid on a day-to-day basis.

My disappointment is that I've never owned a mobile phone and was hoping after the announcement that the SE was going to be the way for me to go. I hardly ever use a telephone but, because I live in the countryside and walk everywhere (sold my car years ago), I really should carry one for 'an emergency call' having suffered a big heart attack a couple of years ago. I've been with Apple since 1992 so am "in the halo" already, and being a stock photographer would have liked the new iPhone primarily as a 'different' picture-taking tool. Perhaps I should get one of my US-based daughters to purchase a contract-free SE on your side of the pond!

I have two phones. One for personal use and one for business. This means that I can turn the business one off (yes I know that is rather strange...) when I'm not working strange as that seems. It will be switched off in around 20 minutes (17:00 GMT) and not be switched on until 08:00 Tuesday. Friday and monday are holidays here in the UK.

The same Rate of VAT applies here in the UK. We have to quote our prices as the price you actually pay unlike the USA which is the price before sales tax.
My 5S got dropped last May when I was in the USA. Sadly it was onto rocks and then into the Sea and it died . Two days later I bought an iPhone 6 from an Apple Store in Delaware. Zero sales tax. Yay!

The price listed add VAT don't they? That accounts for $80 of the $150.
Then there is always the slightly higher price for the pleasure of doing business in France ;-); often French products are cheaper in the US than in France!
Finally, part of this difference is an edge in case the Euro goes lower during the year, considering the difference they must think it will.

I tried to order this morning with pickup in-shore in the UK but this option was not available. I have checked again and it appears that in-store pickup is not available from any UK store.

Has anyone noted if home delivery is anything other than 31 March yet?

In store pickup isn't available in the US either. I tried my own state last night, and then 5 other states just to check as I was surprised this wasn't an option. I generally prefer to pick up expensive items in store, and was able to select in store pickup two years ago when I preordered my Air 2.
