Vonnegut is not even remotely similar to Robbins. But I still like his writing, although it's a bit too preachy for me at times.

Tom Robbins is a smug, self-aggrandizing, ahistorical adolescent hippie twat. Just thought I'd contribute to your discussion.

LOL, you sound like a right winger--that's just the sort of reaction I would expect Robbins' novels to elicit from a republican.

Ok, on your recomendation I've bought a Tom Robbins book: even cowgirls get the blues.

First impressions, not up to Douglas Adams' standard but I'll keep going.

Video of G5 chip, Apple System Profiler,

and VIDEO of new case design coming soon!

This thing will be announced in July and start

    shipping in September.

Michael Hedges' song, Jitterboogie, was written after reading Jitterbug Perfume.

This is a fake for two reasons:

    1) For those of you who have DP machines, playing a QT movie doesn't chew up that much CPU time. The bars will stay low. And, unless Apple's redone their smp to allow someone to specify a certain task to a certain CPU, one CPU would not shoot up in activity much beyond the other. CPU time is usually distributed evenly.

    2) Magnification on the dock gets more of a repsonse from the CPU bar than playing a quicktime movie. The CPU bars in that movie didn't jump at all when the cursor hovered over the dock.

How much CPU a movie uses when it is played back depends largely on what codec was used to encode it. Also keep in mind that Snapz will be using some CPU to do the actual movie recording (and Snapz has a few threads).

As for the movie, I can say this -- it was definitely recorded with Snapz Pro X. I can see the telltale signs of Snapz's video recording.

Whether it was retouched after the fact or was recorded using a faked/hacked CPU monitor, well, I'll leave you to speculate on that...

I have seen very similar behaviour on my Dual 450.

    You guys!

    The video is real video.

    But what are you seeing?

    Quad G4?

    Quad 604?

    G5 800?

    Gigawire Cluster...???
  • Reply 40 of 47
I'm betting on it being Quad 604's.

But then again I'm not sure that the CPU Monitor is ready to view quad processor use.
