Sick of Price Whining

Posted:
in General Discussion edited January 2014
I've noticed a huge crop of price whining these days. "Why do macs have to cost so much? Why can't life be fair?" If economics operated this way, I'd own a glass plasma TV and a garage full of Porsches.

I guess the point of this rant is this: If price matters, use Linux. It's free, as is basically all the software for it.

Glad I got that off of my chest. Sorry.

This is a forum and people are free to state their vies, just like you

Think the people who complain about the high prices, including me are all concerned about Apple. We love our macs, want good hardware and software

But Apple prices are indeed steep and not helping many mac users get their beloved hardware and also get new switchers who are essential to Apple's growth and viability in the long run.

We are only concerned thats all, and sometimes just complaining in appleinsider do makes us feel better.

Bear with it. If u can't stand it, just dun read these threads. just like I dun bother to read threads comparing Apple to Microsoft.

i'm only 16, and i only get 8.50/hr and i never really understand why people complain about prices. if you want a new mac and u have 1500 and its 1799 or whatever the situation may be, you wait 2-4more weeks and then you can buy one...i wonder about those of you who complain if you are really as money savvy as you should be.

If you already havn't pissed all ur next paycheck away take 1/10 of it and put it in the bank and dont worry about it, i think you'll find urself not loosing out on as much as you think you would...in 10 pay periods you'll magically have ur money

example...u get 500/2wks....so thats 20weeks...that saying in 5 months you will have 500 to spend on whatever your heart desires unless you choose to spend it on something else...money is precious but dont be stupid with it...1/10 isn't needed, it could be less, it could be more...just something...my point is are you saying you couldn't wait 5months for a new computer for the difference between a mac and a pc?

ps...i assume most of you make more then 500/2wks

I think Macs are overpriced, right now, so i expect a lot of threads on the subject...

...BUT I concur that they are really, really tiresome.

Money for a computer is harder to come by when you need to pay rent. Wait a few years.

I do, and it's really enjoyable. More so than MS Windows, wich would cost over a hundred dollars.

Anyway, Macs do cost more. Yes! Is it worth it, that is for you to deside. A small premium is worth it to use FCP. However, I won't buy another Mac untill the are competivly priced.

I understand about rent and things, the main point was to show how easy it is to save up money if you don't waste it...it goes quickly in little amounts, but you should really try my method, it would help you...or perhaps you rn't he one with the problem but a good book for anyone to read (which is where my idea comes from...so its not really mine) is "the richest man in babylon" read that and you will be rich someday...specially me cuz i'm starting young

its all about priorities...mine are easier because i am younger and do not have to worry about rent and such, but i do understnad priorities, if you want m stuff then move to a cheaper place as an example...my parents have always made scrifices for my siblings and i, but i thank god that none of theme ever had to be too drastic and that i am lucky enough to live in a nice house with everything i need and more

computer,tv,stereo, discman, tons of nice things, couldn't ask for more, well i could and do, but that is because i'm a bastard

Okay, let the debate renew. Just, please, don't use the term "price point". Apple blah blah blah blah price point because blah blah blah price point.

    How about just PRICE!

I remember when we had one word for the term "at this time". I guess "now" wasn't pretentious enough.

(Yes, I have better things to do. Bye for now.)

Then of course there are those of us with house payments, insurance payments, children, etc etc etc. Some of us may have even recently left their careers to return to school so that they can be home with said children. Personally, I went from being a private forestry contractor making about $40k/year with 2-3 months off each winter to being a part-time student/line cook who dances to someone elses tune. And I don't care what SpongeBob says, it ain't that glamorous.

A couple of years back my wife left her decent-paying job with EXCELLENT health benefits (NEVER underestimate the value of health benefits) to return to school to obtain her Bachelors, and possibly her Masters if we can swing it. At that time we purchased an iMac DV for use with school. Since then we have also purchased a Wallstreet PB. Both excellent machines. And if we can swing it, we hope to get an FP iMac with our tax return. Personally, I feel that Apples consumer hardware is almost worth the price. The clincher, of course, is OS X and the iApps. But make no mistake, Apples market share would increase dramatically (IMHO) if they cut their profit margin and gave us, the consumer, a break. And I ain't talkin' mail-in rebates here. I'm talkin' real price cuts. They almost got the idea with the eMac, but why are the G3 iMacs still so darn spendy, relatively speaking?

    Anyways, just my $0.02.

    To reiterate:

OK. Macs have a cost, right? If you can't afford one, don't buy one. Pretty simple, no?

Yes, you may want a Mac, but like I said, I want a glass plasma TV and a garage full of Porsches, and I don't own them, and I don't think I will be owning them anytime soon.

Whining about the price isn't going to bring it down. If Apple had a way to make the cost lower, I'm sure they'd go for it.

Apple is very overpriced. We have lots of them here , but they are getting replaced with cheaper, faster Windows boxes. Apple sells the image, not the content.

Apple sells image and not content?? You MUST be a fricken PC user. What an ubsurd statement. Why don't some of you study economics and see why Apple's prices are the way they are. Apple spends a lot more money where it counts and doing so does not come cheap. We pay the price because...wake up call, it is worth it!! Want a PC that is simply cheap, well, you get what you pay for. Have fun making the windows switch, see you in a year. You guys are really pieces of work. Why not try plug and play on a PC or install something without having to restart the computer. Or meeting deadlines. I am outta here.

Those anti PC arguements are so tired. There used to be a Mac advantage, but today it is hust another choice. Stop comparing Windows 3 to current Apple offerings.I use both platforms a lot and prefer the PCs becasue they are faster and work more efficiently. The PCs work on all Web sites and I can use MSN chat.

.......and have a more efficient spellchecker obviously.

I've got a G4 imac and have yet to come across a web site that didn't work for me, i've got no problems reading word files fromPCs and Medal of Honor runs fine - (in fact far too quick for me usually ) <img src="graemlins/embarrassed.gif" border="0" alt="[Embarrassed]" />

Stop splitting hairs and making stupid little points. Yes, macs are a bit dearer but they do all I and most people need them to , and they do it in style. None of my PC friends are editing movies ( i've just finished my hols to florida ) burning DVDs ( kids projects at the school ) and my kids are more computer literate than most because they've been able to use Macs from a very young age. The common complaint at my school from the kids is why can't other depts. get smart looking computers like ours. They aren't interested in speed differences that don't affect anything. They want cool looking equipment that is fun and easy to play with. Most of them have PCs at home but would still rather use the Mac in school. That tells me a lot.

Try using a Mac because you obviously haven't used one from what you've said.

When you think about all the work that goes into a computer $1200, $1600, $3000, ect, isn't alot. Cheep even. It's just that there are some others that that have most of the feature(somtimes more) that cost LESS. Value and price are two different things, but being the capitalist I am I generly go to the cheeper one.

hmm lots of anti mac & anti pc bigots in here

yup apple does spend money on r&d

however & this the important point

as their products stale the price still remains

    high

peripherals are another story...i bought a

gf3 ti200 for my pc for 120$ & the same card

would cost twice what i paid for the mac...why ?

why is the price difference so big ?

ram is another area but here users can easily buy

    ram from crucial or memoryx

os x is a nice os but overhyped as is xp

both have their uses & both have their annoyances

os x has a slight edge beacuse of its bsd subsystem. win2k/nt has an edge due to better availabilty of software & games at the moment

as users if we dont question a companies policies

& vote with our wallet then we may as well shut

up & be taken for a ride...

Surely your talking about something different...."Please tell me you've got something more, Lieutenant. Please tell me there's an ace up your sleeve. These two marines are on trial for their lives"....sorry useless A Few Good Men quotes.
