Twitter, Vine expand video limit to 140 seconds

The duration of videos posted to Twitter has been expanded from a 30 second limit to 140 seconds --?matching the numerical 140 character limit for text posts.

When the modifications are fully rolled out, a tap on a video will play the video full-screen with a suggestion bar intended for further discovery added to the bottom of the screen.

Additionally, a small group of content creators will be able to add a 140-second video to a six-second Vine video, effectively turning the shorter video into a preview of the longer one.

The move for video is similar to one discussed for text in May, where user names for replies and links for embedded media won't be counted towards the 140-character limit. That change has yet to be implemented fully, while the 140 second extension is effective starting Tuesday for both web and mobile users.

Twitter for iOS, Android and the web supports 140-second videos as of Tuesday. Support is said to be "coming soon" to the dedicated Twitter apps for Mac and Windows.
