Ok here is the story.

I'm sending files to this printer guy here in town. It has been a week since I heard from him, I finally call. He says he can't get my files to print right. Why he didn't call me earlier is another thread altogether. ANYWAY, I finally find out that he is on a PC and taking my files into Illustrator <which is good cause thats what I used to make them> and then, and excuse me if I seem ignorant I am really just a web guy, but he takes these eps' he has made and opens them in Corel v11???? and is complaining that my files are screwed.

I ask him why isn't he using illy or freehand, the standards.

He replies:

"I've been using Corel for 10 years.Â* We have all the biggies...Illustrator, Pagemaker, In-Design, Quark etc

but I find Corel to be the most efficient program of the bunch...95% of my work can be done right in corel

without having to switch over to programs like Photoshop etc.Â* I also find that Corel creates the most

accurat PDF files out of any program.

While Illustrator et al used to be the standards we are finding more and more clients and other shops

are using Corel more and more... ( I guess I am a trendsetter ) .

Anyways.Â* Let me know if everything is ok."

Am I nuts or does this make no sense? am I a snob to shun Corel?

let me know if and how I should attack this.

thanks!

Flick,

Weird. I think the fella is whacked. Corel may have more users on the Windows side, but definately not on the Mac side. Still, I just got MacWorld and they have given Corel 11 a very good rating...

I think his differences towards Illustrator/Quark/Photoshop are unfounded...he's lazy I think...

I'll let the experts continue...thought I'd put my 2 cents in.

I like Corel's products for the most part, but he has to be prepared to work in these other apps. It would be more worth his while to buy a copy of them to save his time in translating the files anyway.

Tell him that you were advised by prepress and publishing experts that based on his answer you should go somewhere else. He doesn't have a clue what he is doing, he should fire his entire company (which is probably just him) and should go back to using his Harvard Graphics or PrintShop software.

And yes, I do consider myself an expert in this field, have a BS degree in printing and have been in this craft since '89.

You know there is nothing like the Apple community. Cheers to you all. The more input the better.
