According to the standards of the historian Robert Paxton, Trump represents Stage 3 fascism. I would also beg to differ with the proTrump comments of the orher posters here. Poor (white) people are more likely to be proTrump than DNC. And Trump's support among the Christians in the South (my reference point) is very strong despite his lifestyle, hot wife/daughter and not very Christian lifestyle-thought process.
Having said that Jihadism (the PC-term for Islamism and I'm OK with the term too) is a threat to the West and needs to be dealt with in a direct fashion. Yes all the Abrahamic religions have their fanatics that harness their ideas in deadly ideas, but Jihadism is directly opposed to the Western secular way of life. And we must not use poorly thought out ideas like religious tolerance to cloud our judgement.
Erdogan was despicable to the Kurds, secular people, democratic ideals and was probably providing cover for the ISIS and their recruits to transit through his country.
I have very mixed feelings about the coup. But i tdoes seem like his FaceTime broadcast played a role in turning the tide.
Hopefully our "fascist" presendential candidates see the value of the iPhone and Apple to our American way of life as they tweet away.
Ergodan deserves to be overthrown but the problem with this is, who would take control that would be allied with US interests and also ruthless enough for the politics of the country and the region? Unfortunately, as is with the US, the people of the Middle East have a choice (and I use that word loosely) of bad and horrible for leaders.

Turkey is a member of NATO and a primary US ally in the Middle East, so Obama doesn't have much leeway in whether he gets to "support" the country.
But if you don't like dictators, think about the Republican nominee and his bromance with Putin and his accolades for Saddam Hussein. The US has its own conservative right wing & religious fundamentalists who been marching toward converting the nation into this exact same type of religious-dictatorship. I hope you feel the same way about freedom in the US as you express regarding Turkey.
Putin is A-OK with me. I have no problems with Putin. Putin is no threat to me or to the USA. There are far greater threats in the world to the USA than Russia. There is no cold war anymore between the USA and Russia. The USA should be friends with anybody who hates Islamists.
Donald Trump will get along great with Putin and everything will be fine and dandy with Russia-US relations. Russian relations have suffered under Obama, but that will be fixed soon, as soon as Trump is placed into the Whitehouse. We can go and kill Islamists together, in a joint and successful operation with our Russian allies.
As for the USA, I think that religious fundamentalists of all stripes are retards, but in no way, shape or form, would I agree that there is a valid comparison between any Christian fundamentalists and Islamists.
Only one of those two groups is currently waging war against the entire world and is actively seeking to conquer the entire world, spreading their cancer worldwide. Ergodan is an Islamic fundamentalist, a thug, an extremist, an authoritarian, and Turkey under his control is no friend to the civilized world.
The best chance for preserving freedom in the USA and the decent parts of the world is for Trump to win.
Sharp as a 2x4.
You ever think that Putin is a cunning little SOB and is setting Trump up?
So you found a book with Liberal and Fascism in the title to prove your point against an academic reference to a JSTOR article that predates the book you referenced by 10 years, seems a little desperate to prove your point.

So you like Trump who likes Putin who bromances with China who bromances North Korea, so you are OK with North Korea and China then (I'm sure they don't like Jihadists either.) And yeah, of course Donald Trump and Putin will get a long fine, that's a given. Also, don't be gullible to think that Russia is incapable of a significant joint nuclear strike with China considering their exit from the Nunn-Lugar program.

Yes, next he's going to quote research by academic reference Ann Coulter.
A decent book that said things other people had said before but didn't mention any of them and seemed to be overly satisfied in its conclusion. I'd hardly call it the book for pointing out that national socialism had a socialism element.

Absolutely agree. I wish folks here had to take a 9th grade civics test to vote.

Fascism is a movement on the left, FYI.
You live in a fantasy world where words have no meaning. Look up the word...or is the dictionary some kind of left wing grand conspiracy?

Remember, they’re the ones who pushed to stop civics classes in the first place.
No, my side's smarter!
