So what does that have to do with anything? Steve is gone and people need to give up on this Steve would have done this, or Apple would have done this crap.
What does it have to do with anything? Well for one we wouldn't even being having this conversation at all if it weren't for him. Apple would not exist barring some unfathomable miracle and even then it would't be like it is today. There certainly would be no iPhone, probably no iPod or iPad and who knows what OS the mac would be running on? Could have been some variant of windows. Or Dell could have bought them out and sold it back to the shareholders as he once infamously said. We wouldn't even be having this conversation if it weren't for Steve Jobs.
Now in all seriousness I think that people reference Steve Jobs because, because they do it jokingly, and some like to reminisce and some because they feel that Tim Cook is not doing a great job as Apple's CEO. There is probably some truth in all of that.
You're saying that the company co-founded by Steve Jobs wouldn't exist today if it weren't for Steve Jobs co-founding the company. You do see that's a pointless tautology, right?

Since you read my post then you would know it was tongue in cheek. But you did read it wrong. I was referring to Steve coming back for his second act at Apple making the company greater then anyone could have imagined, not even the most die hard Apple fan, could have imagined.
Basically, and again in all seriousness, I think there is a legitimacy when people bring up Steve Jobs. They may miss his leadership, his ability to vision the future of the tech industry and the future of Apple. Some people who love Apple do think Tim Cook is not the right guy to be the leader of Apple. There is nothing wrong with that point of view.

other than being wrong. who else is the right guy to be apples CEO? should they hire out as the HP board did? as the Yahoo board did? both disasters.
look, we all recognize (obviously) that Jobs was a great leader of Apple. but he died. and anyone claiming to know what he did us trying to channel a ghost, which is idiotic. and trying to compare Cook, an inventory guy, to Jobs', a product design guy, is likewise idiotic. they're different, but valid skill sets. Cook is clearly successful, as Apple sells more, makes more, and has higher consumer satisfaction numbers today.
No one cares how many iPhones have been sold by Apple. Anything that's happened in the past appears to be pretty much unimportant as far as Wall Street is concerned. What matters is boasting about how many products a company is going to sell in the future. That's how Tesla keeps investors excited and drooling. Elon Musk always says if this happens on time or if that happens smoothly, Tesla is going to be on top of every other company. Most people would consider that a bunch of optimistic BS but it works well for Musk. Investors keep pouring money into the company based on Elon Musk's future vision.
Why the heck doesn't Tim Cook have any convincing rhetoric to juice up investor confidence? Instead, Apple's future is rife with pessimism and failure. It's really strange how this all came about. Nobody can tell the future. Look at Apple with the iPod, iPhone and iPad. Nobody really could tell beforehand whether those products would be huge hits, yet everyone believes it will never happen again. Truthfully, I don't know so I take a neutral outlook. I suppose since there's no Steve Jobs, everyone is certain Apple will never have any future hit products. I guess the odds are against a huge hit happening for Apple but you never can tell.

near unlimited resources, excellent design skill, mastery of hardware design and manufacturing, culture of creative design, forty years of shaking up multiple industries....but the odds are against it. riiiight.
doomed. pack it up and go home, boys, apple's finished. nothing left in the tank.
