Apple Music 'Planet of the Apps' series brings on Paltrow, Vaynerchuk, will.i.am
Actress Gwyneth Paltrow, musician will.i.am, and entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk will all serve as advisors to the app developers selected for the Apple 'Planet of the Apps' video series.
"We are thrilled to collaborate with Gwyneth, Gary and will.i.am on Planet of the Apps," said producers Howard Owens and Ben Silverman. "Starting a new business is not easy. Our team of advisors are entrepreneurs who have each launched and built successful brands and can tap into their personal experience to offer advice to the app developers selected for the series."
Paltrow, in addition to her 20-year motion picture and television acting career, is a musician, and has a weekly lifestyle digital newsletter, and accompanying video content.
Musician will.i.am was named in 2011 as one of Intel's directors of creative innovation. He has also announced plans to release the i.am+-branded a "camera enhancer" to improve the clarity of iPhone photos. In May 2016, a line of earphones debuted as an Apple Store exclusive. He is also the owner of a machine learning company in Israel.
Vaynerchuk launched VaynerMedia in 2009, to take commercial advantage of a nascent social media marketplace. He is an author, has started an investment fund that focuses on consumer technology, and stars in several YouTube shows.
The producers of "Planet of the Apps" are accepting online applications to be cast in the show through Aug. 26. Prospective candidates must agree to have an iOS, macOS, tvOS, or watchOS app in a beta or functional state by Oct. 21.
"We've seen some really, truly inspiring and incredible stories from our developers in what they've done, where they come from, how they started and the problems they've solved," Apple Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue said when existence of the show was first revealed.
The premiere season will film in Los Angeles in late 2016 through early 2017. Developers who appear on the show are not required to give up equity in the app chronicled on the series unless they choose to accept an offer from a show advisor or investor.
