Companies like Apple, BMW, Honda, etc., put their businesses where their customers are and where they want to grow their market. The US is still a mass producer of products and services, and is very efficient and effective at both.
It's starting to sound to me like they're beginning to pave the way for a U.S. exit after the FBI harassment and the deal with the taxes and offshore money.
IMHO, if the more right wing candidate wins in November the political atmosphere post January will make many companies ask themselves if even operating (let alone being based) in the USA is worth it. The new president will try to get every job that companies like Apple have overseas 'returned' to the US. One commentator asked 'what about the retail jobs' and got the reply 'All jobs'. Interesting times eh?
Data centers are physical or virtual infrastructure used by enterprises to house computer, server and networking systems and components for the company's information technology (IT) needs, which typically involve storing, processing and serving large amounts of mission-critical data to clients in a client/server architecture.
A data center, or datacenter, often requires extensive redundant or backup power supply systems, cooling systems, redundant networking connections and policy-based security systems for running the enterprise's core applications.
Data center management involves ensuring the reliability of both the connections to the data center as well as the mission-critical information contained within the data center's storage. It also entails efficiently placing application workloads on the most cost-effective compute resource available.
The Rise of the Software-Defined Data Center
While data centers are traditionally thought of as large-scale physical environments where an extensive number of computers and servers are housed, the software-defined data center (SDDC) has created a new breed of virtualized data centers and cloud-based data centers that extend a company’s on-premises infrastructure to off-premises sites.
These virtual data centers can serve as a bridge to the enterprise's private data center in a hybrid, or blended, fashion, or the company can completely offload its data center operations by relying on a public data center from a third-party service provider.

and that answer is perhaps the funniest one here. Apple is not leaving the United States. To think otherwise is just SILLY.
Have you noticed that Apple is MONTHS away from occupying an entirely new campus in Cupertino, California which is IN THE UNITED STATES.
This $5,000,000,000 campus that under development that will be placed on a 176 acre site in Cupertino, California and will be occupied by more than 13,000 Apple employees.
They also own many other facilities, buildings, stores and data centers around the United States and even in Cupertino. Despite the new campus and buildings Apple recently has rented other buildings in Cupertino too.
I think they have a MAJOR COMMITMENT to remaining in the UNITED STATES. There is no doubt about it.
And what is wrong with eating dog? You only have an issue with it because of your culture of having dogs as pets. As the global demand for protein rises you will need to reconsider some of your current mindset.
Don't expect jobs to be returning to the US soil unless and until the Asian countries colonize US.
Counterpoint:
Over the past 15 years, many IT jobs actually have returned to the US, based on two triggers: (a) US firms' disappointment over their loss of control when offshoring some IT and Call Center functions, and (b) the huge amount of innovations and entrepreneurialism stemming from the Internet and Mobile revolutions.
Big companies like Apple, Google, Facebook, AWS, and others are actively hiring in the US. Additionally, newer services like Snapchat, Instagram, and others show that a vibrant pre-IPO industry exists that has a constant need for fresh, educated, and innovative individuals.
yeah, I used to code for Target, they were pretty unhappy with the poor quality of code after they outsourced. I was happy when they reversed course and brought the code home. GE is supposed to be doing the same.

dogs have been bred to serve as trusting loyal companions to humans, not as dumb meat. that's why it's revolting.
as the global demand for meat rises, we will need to turn to plant based protein. fake meat is getting better every year...pea protein isolate is finding its way into many high protein substitutes.
Hopefully, it will be populated by Apple Blade Servers -- running iOS 10, with A10X APUs and Thunderbolt connections to FoundatoionDB clusters. They could use the IBM Kitura web server software (written in Swift) and a web application development system written in Swift (Similar to Markdown or ColdFusion).
Yeah, Apple having centers around the world. Wonder how Cook likes his dog meat. He should think of the US first. I wonder what type of software (spy) traps will be in the apps developed from Vietnam. Not happy at the moment.
Global companies operate globally. Imagine that. You probably think Donald Trump will actually force Apple to bring jobs back to the U.S. too, right?

Now, that would be dogfooding it.
Solar and wind powered with pumped molten salt storage for 24/7 operation with the persistent view of a large Chinese naval presence offshore.
Ah, to be cruising the South China Seas in 2040 for a reenactment of the great Pacific naval battles of WWII, now with more autonomous everything, and yes, as a matter of fact, there will be an app for that!

Coincidence: I've been craving New Mexican Black Bean Soup, so I bought some dried black turtle beans, and went on a BBCK (Black Bean Cooking Kick) -- Black Bean Corn Salad, Black Bean Soup, Christos y Morros. Next, I am going to try a recipe for black bean veggie burger.
Yummy stuff!

I don't give a crap where somebody is from, or what their culture is.
Eating dog is fucking disgusting, and also quite barbaric and uncivilized.
They might as well serve humans for dinner, what difference does it make?

Is there any other country on the planet with more spies, a more corrupt government, that started as many wars, that destroyed as many democracies, as the US?

I don't he will even if elected president. What needs to happen is the corporate tax rate needs to be dropped or at a level that incentivizes corporations to invest their offshore funds here. 35 percent corporate tax is far too much.

After Trump is sworn in, Apple and many other big companies will be able to bring back a lot of their overseas profits that are currently just sitting in limbo, because the conditions for doing so will be very favorable, and all of the companies that have money overseas will be taking advantage of that amazing opportunity.
It's a shame that Apple hauls its money overseas. Guess it's cause they think they can get cheap labor. Have they not thought about building in "Right to work" states where employers can screw their employees with no fear of rebuke from a union? Vietnam???? Yuk
After Trump is sworn in, Apple and many other big companies will be able to bring back a lot of their overseas profits...
Sorry, any changes in tax law would need to come from our Legislative branch, not our Executive branch. Unless Trump also plans to eliminate Congress -- which would be bold, even for him -- he will have no direct ability to change the repatriation tax.

So the real question is, what's a database? I fear the answer reveals that a database center can exist only in a writer's head.
Maybe Apple should stick to building data centers, in Vietnam or elsewhere.
By the way, I believe Intel was the first large American tech investment in Vietnam, about ten years ago, a chip fab, some few $ Billions.
