I sent a letter to Steve once. Not an e-mail, a letter. I talked about PDA's and how I used to have a Newton and how I was upset that the PocketPC was the Mac of PDA's. I also included a couple of my mockups and told him that at the board I posted at (AI), there were lots of other good mockups and product ideas from ACTUAL CONSUMERS. This was 2 years ago now, when AI had lots of future product designs posted constantly.

Anyhoo I got a call the next week from Steve's office saying taht "Mr. Jobs was very intrigued by your letter and he commends you on your fine work. He says to stick with it and you will likely have a great career. He would also like to know the URL of those boards so he can take a look at the other designs people have come up with and he has informed me to send you a free 'Think Different' t-sirt."

Anyway, my point is that Steve does read the mail that his employees deem worthy of him reading. And sadly, I stopped creating mockups of Apple products; I let Steve down

infact not too long ago it think someone on these forums got a reply.. there were even times when he had a new mac sent out to this guy along with an apple tech to install it.... haha

    I think I was a cross between those 2.

I had e-mailed him a while back. I had just gotten my PowerMac G4/400. Had saved up for a LONG time for it... at the time I was what..14 I think... so first I was hit with the "speeddump", I still bought the system but it got here with a screwed up audio chip. had an "apple tech" come and he screwed up EVERYTHING... ram was no good, had no idea what he was doing, tried putting my PCI cards into the AGP slot and said something was wrong with the slot.... and didn't fix the original problem..

and I have had other problems with apple products in the past. so I e-mailed Steve Jobs, wrote it as best I could being polite but honest and saying how I had saved up and then I got hit with the speeddump and my system got screwed up and the tech they sent screwed it up more.

I got an e-mail back not too long after sending it saying that he apologized for the problems and that I would be contacted by an Apple executive who would personally take care of me. and sure enough I did, can't remember his name, have it somewhere, and he was really nice... talked to me on the phone, went through everything and apologized. He said they couldn't just send me a new machine as a replacement but they would make sure it got fixed so they sent a tech.... very good one... got fixed and they sent me free zip disks, a t-shirt and other stuff and said if I ever had other problems to please just call.

    It was really cool.

Why should Steve Jobs waste time responding to your idiotic letter when you won't even take the time to proofread it?

    - "...might take sometime to read it..."

    - "...hobbyist built there own color television."

    - "No, it?s not even a consideration."

    - "Why hasn?t Apple introduce a digital camera..."

    -"...and get feed your ass..."

I won't even respond to the overly simplistic nature of each and every one of your suggestions. It's not worth my time, so it sure as hell isn't worth Steve's time.

"Question: What are you waiting for?"

WTF are you waiting for? Give me a break. Do you think Steve has a "Next Great Thing!!!" button in his office, and he's just too damned lazy to push it? My god, the nerve of some people.

And finally, thanks for bringing the open source paradigm to Steve's attention. I'm sure he missed all the hoopla while he was busy researching the intrinsic "prettiness" of various plastics.

Thank you so much for the feedback. Much appreciated. Oh, you missed one of your edits. "Proofread" and not "proof-read" :

    proofread

Hey Simple Ranger; I agree. How silly is it to make the post, then admit that the message got bounced, watching the entire thread turn into a discussion about Steve's email address.

    Very funny.

By the way, you can delete all but the last of those "Message edited by" endlines. Then maybe we won't know that you rewrote or fixed your post 3 times.

-I'm sorry if I was harsh. I just find it arrogant to send a letter, riddled with errors, entreating someone to raise the bar.

-Plus, how many letters like this do you think Steve gets. How many times can he read: "Apple should give away OS X, sell a $500 Mac, have an amazing and cheap digital camera, move to X86, and give us some 'Next Big Thing'. And if you have time, how about a PDA?" It just makes it that much harder for a customer with real concerns to be heard.

-"And, ya know, with that PDA thing? It would be awesome if you could like integrate it with my phone is some kind of crazy-ass matrixy way. And it should look really cool. But I don't want to pay more than, oh i don't know, let's say $20. And I'd like it by next week."

Doing something right takes time. How long did it take us to get from Rhapsody to Jaguar? I enjoy speculating as much as the next person, but c'mon. It's ridiculous how outraged people get when their every whim is not instantly fulfilled. Be patient. Have some faith. Even Steve does not "have a magic answer." Apple is working hard to give us great products.

-Also, it really annoys me when people invoke "design" as part of the Macintosh magic and then dismiss Steve's genius as "pretty plastic".

I'm not saying the all-mighty Steve shouldn't be bothered. I'm just saying I wouldn't bother him with bulletin board fodder. I'm sure he's paying several people to do that already.

Did you really expect a pat on the back just because you sent Steve Jobs a rant?

I really don't care if people know that I've edited my post. It shows that I care about what I've said and care about the level of dialogue. I just wish some other people on AI would do the same. I can excuse the occasional typo, but this kind of rampant sloppiness in both thought and execution annoys the hell out of me.

As if steve didn't have enough problems and reasons not to like AI, now we are sending him letters that are...well stupid.

I'm sorry man but some of your questions, just right out questions that he has no good reason to answer, and not only do i not think he should, but if i were him i wouldn't either! Good work finding his email but be realistic

Pat on the back? Nah, not from this group. Look, I love Apple's products too. This a flippin forum about Apple for Christ's sake. Besides, I doubt Steve ever read my email because I don't think he ever got it

Look, history shows plenty of products that was ahead of its time that never sold because others waited and executed efficiently.

I believe the only way Apple to gain marketshare is offer the NEXT THING. It ain't going to be their Macintoshs computer. Sorry. There is too much inertia for Windows on the desktop. They started the battle and lost it.

Something big comes this way from Apple. They are waiting to execute it efficiently. The stores are the first step, it will be the place to see it up close. They have to introduce the NEXT THING in 24 months or Apple will lose half of their marketshare (to 1.5%) in that time.

History is only showing Apple from the PC King in 1980 to a small little marketshare of 3%-5%. whoppee

Well aparently is says somewhere if you send any ideas or renditions to Apple they are automaticly the property OF Apple... Something I found interesting! Also I think if you stick the Apple logo on any reditions it automaticly will become Apple property.

After the LCD iMacs introduction there were some comments to a strikingly smilar sketch on some site for Apple design wannabes. had the same half a ball bottom and neck. and had been on the site for up to a year before

I don't really see why you're trying to send Steve an email, Like he owns a computer, or even knows how to use one for that matter. Sheesh!
