Apple opens Red Cross donations towards Louisiana flood relief

Posted:
in iPod + iTunes + AppleTV
Apple on Friday launched donations to the American Red Cross via iTunes and the App Store, spurred by the flooding in Louisiana which has forced thousands of victims out of their homes and caused widespread property damage.

People can donate in increments of $5, $10, $25, $50, $100, or $200. Apple notes that the full amount of each donation will go to the Red Cross, but that charitable givers can't use any existing iTunes credit.

Apple will often enable iTunes donations for well-publicized disasters such as earthquakes and hurricanes. Just this May, Canadians were able to send money to the Canadian Red Cross for relief of the forest fires around Fort McMurray, Alberta.

The Red Cross has become Apple's de facto partner for iTunes donations, despite the presence of other charities in global relief efforts.

Makes it easy and quick to donate.  Visit App Store, couple of clicks, and you are done...

People still live there? Ever since Katrina I thought people would've run far away and never turned back. With rising water levels worldwide, many of the coastal communities will eventually be submerged and insurance companies should refuse to insure dwellings in these areas.

I don't think any place in the United States would be able to handle the amount of rain that's fallen in Louisiana.

The first two thousand dollars donated will go towards plane tickets for Obama and Hillary who, unlike Trump, appear to be having trouble getting there.

This is, of course, assuming that planes can be arranged to pick them up directly at the golf course and asylum respectively.

Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act of 2014. The feds are the ones who are encouraging people to rebuild in high risk areas by offering inexpensive flood insurance.

If the feds declare a natural disaster people without insurance may receive financial assistance to recover but then are required to maintain the affordable insurance, however there is little to no enforcement and by the time there is another disaster their insurance may have lapsed. There is some legislation proposed to end this affordable insurance for the high risk areas and no longer permit rebuilding in flood prone zones.

Obama will be there on Tuesday. Unlike Trump, Obama has had a team in place aiding the recovery since day one. Obama's arrival date was coordinated with state and federal officials who were immediately involved with assistance to victims and he did not want to be a distraction to their efforts by showing up too soon. Hillary, on the other hand can by no means assist in any way by showing up, and Louisiana is a strong red state so there is no point in campaigning there.

Well at least he didn't lie about giving up golf like GWB did during the Iraq war.

Have you ever noticed that whenever anything bad happens in the world or the US, be it a terrorist attack, a natural disaster, a riot, or a number of other things, it's all just a distraction and a minor inconvenience to Obama?

How dare there be flooding during Obama's golf game!

Maybe he can spare 5 minutes of his time, to say a few meaningless comments to the press, and then it's hop right back on the golf cart, and get back to what really matters!

Until the next disaster strikes of course, which will no doubt occur during another golf game, at which time, he'll be ready to take another 5 minutes worth of his time again.

The last time the community organizer opened their mouth, he was caught in a huge lie. The money to Iran was indeed a ransom, no matter what words these corrupt crooks choose to call it and no matter how much they lie about it.

Hillary is probably spending the weekend in an old age home, with oxygen tanks, recovering from a busy week, while Trump is busy being Trump, actually caring about the country and being on top of things 24-7, unlike the other frauds.

A good point and utterly relevant to this situation.

What a couple of humanitarians Obama and Hillary are!

(Why is there no option to donate $400,000,000?)

Good one apple ][. Since when have you ever been concerned about anyone other than yourself? Poor disadvantaged people have historically been absolutely your most distalned demographic. That has got to be the most disingenuous post I've read in this forum in recent memory.

Spoken like a True Justice Warrior!

    The guy who rocked up.
    With a truck.
    Handing out water and diapers.
    For free.
Didn't do enough...compared to the individuals who didn't even turn up.

The nerve of that Trump guy!

He's a leader, and he made Obama look like a complete useless fool, because now the WH has abruptly changed their plans and they have announced that Obama will be making a visit next week. :#

Hillary probably won't but, in all fairness, I understand why.

Nobody wants her there stealing any of the shit that gets given to the people of Louisiana.

What are they suppsed to do there, tuff guy? Better yet, what aren't *you* there, with your militia buddies? People in Louisiana don't government help, they kin do jus fine on their own.

Pathetic that useless one-inchers can't make it through a day without needing to bring Obama into everything.

Which would be what? Klan hoods? You techie boyz are all quite the pseudo-libertarian and pathetic bunch. When it was New Orleans, none of you one-inchers cared, but now that lots of white trash are caught up in it, suddenly you reverse course. How typical.

I think it woiuld be nice to be able to add a blood type to the contacts. In countries other than the US getting emergency blood can be problematic. My friends in other countries rely on their social networks to get a pint of the proper blood if a family member needs surgery.

I was in that situation when traveling abroad and a friend found someone with my blood type to save my life.

the majority of New Orleans (just over half) is above sea level. further, if everyone abandoned the coasts and ports you'd have no coffee, shrimp, oil, or shit from Asia. oops.

You think Obama should fly down there ASAP. You have no idea of what's involved with a visit by the President. The security arrangements that must be made would take a huge amount of resources away from more important like getting residents to safety. But of course you would agree with this if Obama were to show up right afterwards. You would be criticizing him for getting in the way. You (and Apple II) don't actually stand for anything other than the opposite of what Obama does.
