If any of the artists I like release new work then I'll probably hear it on the radio before buying it.
The Rolling Stones don't get radio airplay! Their fans largely consume their music through live concerts, and the periodic re-release of older material when they publish a new album.
Maybe not on the stations you listen to, but on my preferred radio stations they do get airplay
I will stick with iTunes Match and purchasing albums every now and then.
There are advantages to Apple Music.
1. You have access to all the music. 2. Your wife and kids have access to all the music. 3. You can still buy songs and videos if you want to but why buy videos when you have Vevo for free. 4. Your whole family can create radio stations to discover new music. 5. Your whole family can listen to Beats Music stations 24 x 7,
Apple Music, it totally rocks!
And you can do all of this on Spotify with a far better music selection for FREE! Sorry but Spotify is still a better service.
On your mobile device Spotify free allows you to "shuffle" play any playlist or artist catalog and create your own playlists, to be played in the same "shuffled" way. So no I am sorry spotify free isn't the same as apple music. You have a bit more freedom using a table or computer, but usability is severely limited with your mobile device unless you pay for the service.

I don't use any streaming services but...
1. I have have access to all the music I want to listen to. 2. My wife and kids( aged 29, 31 and 32) have access to all the music in my collection 3. I can still buy music from itunes or amazon or wherever. Rough Trade Records, just off Portobello Road in London is a place I visit at least once a month. A great place to buy Vinyl from over the decades. 4. My whole family can create playlists
I have more than 600 albums in my collection going back to the late 1950's. I bought my first album in 1967 (Rolling Stones) If any of the artists I like release new work then I'll probably hear it on the radio before buying it. Sadly, age has caught up with many of the artists I like to hear. eg David Bowie.
Oh, and I don't have to pay bandwith charges to listen to music I like.
While I accept that for some people services like Apple Music and Spotify work, they don't for many of us, especially old dinosaurs like me.
I have 3000 albums and 2000 CDs and I still use Apple Music. I can listen to my music at work, in my car, on my iPhone with much more ease than ripping CDs to iTunes.
Not only does it help on the convenience front, I listen to music I wouldn't normally hear (Frank Ocean, Kendrick Lamar, etc).
It also saves me money because I discover music that I like but not love and discover that I don't need to own it.
It is a steal at $10/15 a month. And I suspect it is better for artists than the low rent district of Spotify.
Artists may be whining about 'fractions of a cent' via these streaming services, but I look at it this way: cable TV channels can be nested under the 'basic' tier and get a reduced amount from every user. Or, they can go 'premium' and get a bigger payoff from a smaller section of the audience. In the end, many channels realize that a fraction of a cent from everyone beats a dollar from a few people. I think there is a parallel here with streaming music. The CD days are gone, people. In addition, the number of new listeners that an artist can be exposed to is vastly more via streaming than it ever would be with CDs or radio. Using Spotify I can't even count the number of new artists (to me, anyway) that I've found and fallen in love with; it's huge. A rising tide floats all boats. In the end, Spotify and Apple Music are BOTH delivering new paying listeners. If the money artists get isn't enough to buy a new Hummer with spinners or an island mansion, TOUGH NUGGETS!! Every artist goes into this saying 'It's Not About The Money, It's About Getting My Music Heard." Well, OK Artists...time to stop being hypocritical.
