How long until you liked the Mac?

I grew up using both a Mac (a lab full of classics and plus's at school then an SE/30 at home) and DOS/Win3.1 machines (a 286, a 438, and then a P2 300).

I liked them equally (DOS and Mac that is) until Windows 3 hit the streets. "What the heck kind of ripoff is this?" I said.

I have never liked the Windows GUI, and dont think I ever will really.

the first comp i used was my pa's amiga500. i could play for hours in this incredible program that could speak [with decent accuracy] words i would type. dirty words are a lot funnier coming from a computer.

i found it very amusing when my roommate [just a few days ago, literally] got a similar program for his peecee. oh, technology. my mac can speak anything in any program now, and can respond to my spoken commands. his program has a funnier computer-esque voice though; one detriment to the mac: superior voice synthesis.

i don't know if i really loved my mac at first. it was a quadra605 and it was kind stuck on me. mother got it cuz at her job they used macs. it kind of peeved me that the salesman convinced her to get the 605 when the 610 was the obvious better [it had a cd-rom drive, which research had told me was a necessity]. to me it seemed like it wsa just a ripoff of the amiga [lacking a knowlede of the history of computers]. aside from the speed increase over my amiga, i didn't really prefer the mac over other computers; until i used them. i guess u don't realize how great something is until u see how terrible the competition is.

Early 1990's we used Data General, 1996 bought first Mac Performa (with those terrible StyleWritter Printers and limited software for OS 7), 1999 bought HP, August 2002 bought iMac. Always came back to mac though.

I was using Apple computers since the Apple ][, and eventually my family bought a ][c. But I saw my first Mac around 1984-1985 at a friend's house. After using a ][ for years I was completely blown away by the icons. I didn't know what it was, but I was hooked from then on. I've been a MacAddict ever since. I've always had to use DOS and Windows machines because of school and work, but I've always talked up the Mac.

EDIT: thur freak, was that talking program SAM? Software Automated Mouth? I had that for the ][c and it was a blast. Well, it was for a kid anyway....
