Apple TV universal search gets Telemundo integration
Apple this week added Spanish-language broadcaster Telemundo to a slowly growing list of services that offer support for universal search on fourth-generation Apple TV devices.
The new compatibility, limited to device owners living in the U.S., was announced through a quiet update to Apple's Support Pages website covering Apple TV search options.
Like past integrations, Telemundo's official Telemundo Now tvOS app appears as a viewing option on the channel's dedicated content pages. For example, a Siri query for super series "Señora Acero" returns the show's landing page with options to watch on Netflix or Telemundo Now.
Apple TV's universal search feature indexes content on Apple servers, meaning Siri search results and viewing options are displayed even if the Telemundo Now app is not installed.
Interestingly, Siri appears to be quite adept at parsing Spanish language requests even when Apple TV system settings are assigned to American English.
With this week's integration, universal search now boasts content from 38 service providers, a number of which fall under Telemundo parent company NBCUniversal. The multinational media conglomerate was an early Apple TV partner and is consistently among the first to take advantage of new hardware and software features.
Universal search was introduced alongside Siri when Apple debuted the fourth-generation Apple TV last year. With it, users can use the Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote app to search for TV shows, videos and other media from anywhere in the tvOS interface.
Apple last updated its search index in July with the addition of Comedy Central, MTV and VH1. Most recently, the feature went live in Mexico, Norway, Spain, Sweden and the Netherlands earlier this month.
