I'm going to be purchasing a top of the line powerbook. Should i wait until the next MacWorld, in case they introduce somehting new? Or, should I buy a PowerBook ASAP?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks ahead of time!

There will NOT be any PowerBook updates in January. There are people who have PowerBooks that haven't even had a chance to warm up yet.

    Buy it. Love it.

Yeah go for it...there will definatly not be powerbook updates in january...I'm worried that there might be powermac updates though, cause I'm on the verge of buying one, and I don't know how long I can wait.

I'd be astounded if there were any updates to the PB line in January. They'd have to clear the channel of the current inventory, which just arrived. Not very likely.

If you're outside New York, I recommend J.U.M.P. Systems for your purchase (www.macsupportstore.com). I bought my GigaBook through them at an unbeatable price. They allowed me to custom configure via telephone (no superdrive, downgraded to 40GB HD) and I got it for around $2500 total cost (no tax outside NY). If you go to their site, you need to log in:

    Good luck!

Well, that was pretty bad advice, I'll admit.

To be fair though, I don't think anyone thought back on Dec 20 that we'd be getting new PowerBooks. There were still a few people who hadn't even received theirs by then.

After this, I don't think you'll be seeing too many "there is no way" statements about updates... they kind of blew the whole predicting thing up this time.

I have new purchase in my near future and the one thing I think everyone should learn from this.. (ok, most of you already know this!!)

These are 'Rumour' forums.. anyone with specific information and an ounce of integrity would have signed an NDA and never said a word.

For ANYONE to say No Updates No Way has only reassured my idea that for the most part - no one knows jack sh**.

Does dr_wiley have a 17" PB in their future??

That's what Apple has said to the rumor mongers with this update.

"You think you know about Apple? Well take THIS!!"

Man, they duped EVERYONE until the day before the expo. Totally out of left field.

Not really, some people knew, and still others knew and didn't really know that they knew. New iBook rumors were almost certainly 12PB hints. 17" was out there too, just that no one could really believe it could be done, but they did it and full credit to them, it looks like a great machine.

Steve can take all the digs he wants and try to sue every snitch, or criminalize them, but we will always find out what's coming. The harder they try to silence rumors, the more tenacious we become. According to Steve, we thought this was going to be one boring MW, but that's BS. Everyone pretty much though something significant was coming, though not neccessarily the stuff we got.

You're exactly right Matsu.. some people DO know.. and leaks do happen.. The morning of the MW when the new iMacs came out, I was buying a coffee downstairs and I saw the Time mag with the new machine on the cover.. I honestly thought I had missed the MW buy a day.. either that or Time has turned into the new Enquirer.. got home, tuned in the stream.. and what do ya know?? Ooops!

I'm just saying that ESPECIALLY with a MW coming up (within weeks).. NOTHING is worth believing, especially not from here.. Apple really has, as was already mentioned - duped the whole crowd almost to the last minute.

It's always worth keeping your ear to the ground, but sometimes it's all for nothing.

I wonder if Apple is going to stretch out the time between shows to partially eliminate buyers hesitations from a new purchase? I would be very interested to see those numbers 7, 14, 30 days out from a show.. do they take losses on models eclipsed by new releases? Hahaha I doubt it. <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />
