will Microsoft copy OS X?

I saw the new PC Magazine this morning, there was an article about the new release of Microsoft Office due out in late 2003 (for Windows, not Mac).

In the article it says that the new color scheme Microsoft is using looks like Mac OS X.

So do you think Microsoft will try to copy the look of OS X in their future OS?

Why not? They have everything else, so far. Why should OS X be any different?

I really hope they done do somethng like that but Luna is copying frankly as it is. Apple should like copyright or something its colour schemes (Cost alot I bet), just like Coke has registered there 'contour' bottle.

Luna is a different color scheme for Windows. Aqua is a different color scheme for the Mac OS. It is not copying... well, maybe after Apple decided to ditch the tired old Platinum look, MS decided they should re-evaluate their tired old theme too.

Calling Luna a copy of Aqua worthy of a lawsuit is like calling the Gateway Profile a lawsuit worthy copy of the iMac. It's simply the same concept, not the same execution. Not only that, but Gateway already had an AIO with a flat panel out before the FP iMac... the Profile 3.

It's annoying how so many Mac fanatics go insane over anything like this. Profile 4 comes out, it's immediately a "rip-off" of the iMac, even though it looks nothing like it. Luna comes out, and it's immediately "copying" Aqua even though I really doesn't look much like it. Gateway makes white laptops (not even white, they're silver-colored) and now all sorts of people are talking about how Apple should sue Gateway. Cool it down! You're acting like a bunch of children.

I don't see how Luna even remotely looks like Aqua.

I use Windows XP at work everyday, the XP color is a garish blue, also the GUI is not even close to as elegant and put together as OS X.

On Friday I had to use Windows Update to update the PC, when I got home I used Software Update to download 10.2.3. Anyone who has used Windows Update knows that it is so archaic and clunky compared to the elegant and simple Software Update in OS X.

My question was will Microsoft try to emulate the look of OS X in their future OS, not just in color but also in design and simplicity.

I don't think so. In fact, I found some pictures of the prototype for the next Windows OS, codenamed Longhorn. I don't have any place to put the pictures, but I could email them to anyone who wants. It's more toned down, it uses a lighter sky blue color for most things while still maintaining the smooth XP Luna look. It's just not as "loud."

longhorn is pretty much admitting that luna was awful, pretty bad branding wise to change your visual identy so fast after redefining it.P.s that toolbar mess at the side of longhorn looks absolutely horrific haha like i need such a huge bar to tell me all that utterly pointless innovation, oh and well done Ms like i need a 900x900 px big window to change my desktop backdrop. christ

They copy us, we copy them.

this is a copy cat industry we are talking about.

But its a good thing as this leads to more innovation to maintain market share.

XP's interface during it's beta stages looked nothing like the release version. Longhorn is doing the same so far. I seriously doubt the shape of the taskbar and the color scheme is the top development priority.

well x wasnt too bad(visually) when it had the simple square look. but then they tacked on that luna crap after the release of osx and made it ultra ugly.

    WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!11

    MY EYES! THE HORROR!!!11

Seriously, as it looks now, Longhorn is redicolously ugly! What's up with the complimentary colours in the menus? It's a shame, a pity.

OK ... you may have seen this already, but I found it very informative.

the link is to a demo of a future release of Windows ... Windows RG .... the site explains it all.

It's worth looking at if you haven't already.

Heh... yeah. Anyways, Longhorn's a while off so I wouldn't worry about what it looks like for quite a while.
