Questionable rumor says Apple could add 'Jet White' option for iPhone 7 & 7 Plus

Apple is planning to add a "Jet White" color option for the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, a rumor claimed on Monday.

The information was shared with Japanese site Macotakara by supply chain sources. The site itself, however, suggested that the information could be unreliable, and didn't mention when the change might take place.

The glossy Jet Black color has so far proven popular with iPhone 7 buyers, despite it being prone to scratching and scuffing. It can still take weeks for a Jet Black model to ship from Apple's U.S. online store -- between 3 and 5 weeks in the case of 7 Plus buyers.

A Jet White phone could prove equally as popular. Apple hasn't sold an iPhone with a white back since the iPhone 5c though, and the company typically avoids introducing new colors in the middle of a product cycle.

The Jet Black phone is also more complicated to make, as it requires a nine-step anodization and polishing process. Adding a second "Jet" color could be too much, but might be feasible once iPhone 7 demand has cooled somewhat.

Ceramic? Maybe they are perfecting the manufacturing process wth the watch and then utilizing it next year for the new iPhone. It would be cool if they had black ceramic as well.

Pretty cool. That would be my first choice in colors.

I've always had a special affinity for "Apple white." I had a white iBook and then the original white intel MacBook and the original intel iMac. And of course a myriad of shuffles and iPods...routers, etc.

Yah, I highly suspect someone is just looking for hits by making up rumours.

Well, there's a paint by Behr called Jet White. Probably just means shiny or glossy at this point, rather than based on historical definition. With that said, I'd love to see if this pans out. Will make my decision on a new iPhone a little bit harder.

I'd like to see Jet Blue (the color not the airline). I'm kinda sick of black, gold, rose gold and silver.

I love the new jet black color, but I would love to have a midnight blue iPhone. Hopefully there are more options for the iPhone 8.

Behr's Jet White paint is neither shiny or glossy. And not even very white actually: it's more cream.

I guess jet in jet white refers to something completely different than in jet black. Jet planes maybe…?

I like it. Slick and elegant. It's probably the rumored ceramic but don't know how they could sell it as the same price.

Personally the color choices for the iPhone are of little consequence to me. My phone is always in a case, so I never see the color of it. The color of the case basically becomes the color of my phone. Likewise, I rarely see the color of anyone else's phone because the majority of them are in cases. Yeah, I know, some colors have a slightly higher resale value, but that is not a huge concern for me either.

Huh.  I thought "jet black" just mean "completely black" but apparently it's just a very, very dark shade of grey:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shades_of_black#Jet

In any case, "jet white" makes zero sense and Apple would definitely never sell a product with that color name.  "Snow black" would be a better name for a white iPhone :)

A clear ceramic case would be amazing.
Reminds me of the old Accutron watches by Bulova.  You could get those with a clear face and see the electronics inside.

"You" doesn't mean the rest if iPhone users. I mostly see people using clear case or naked phones. That's why color is great for them to differentiate the current models to previous one.
Apple should have done this right at the beginning of iPhone 7/7+: White/white and Black/black, Silver/white and Slate/black, Rose/white and Gold/black.

    1) That sounds like it would be trademarked.

    2) The formal moniker makes no difference to my buying decision, but I personally think the name is silly.
