So what is going on with Appleinsider?

We told that the site has a new owner and would be moved to a new server.

There were about two or three news updates. It looks like there was a slight refinement on the main page and then....well that's it.

Slaptech's old site is already down, though I don't know what it did in the first place.

So what the heck is going on here? Are the forums still on the Macnn servers? Is Slaptech going to ever post updates?

You'll know as soon as we know.

I miss the old days, where AppleInsider was one of the premiere sites for Mac rumors!

My favoritte memory will always be back in 1999. (I think it was 99). It was a few days before the Macworld where the blue/white G3's were introduced. Somebody posted a quick drawing of what the G3's were going to look like. Ahh good times.

This site has - by far - the coolest boards and members. But it always has that "hanging on by a thread" vibe to it.

I wish some rich, Mac-obsessed bastard would buy it, hire a couple of kick-ass reporters and/or rumor-mongers and sink bucks/resources into AI to make it - to borrow a phrase - all that it can be.

Or perhaps another appropriate phrase..."the power to be the best."

Not to be rude but why would they have to be rich? I have honestly be quite interested in purchasing the domain. Quite simply put, there is no one to contact with regard to this information.

All of the email addresses I have tried bounce back as non-existant. The front page has no content that would be worth anything. There are no other services. It is essentially just a front page pointing to these forums.

The only value would be these forums which while entertaining do not really generate revenue that I am aware of.

So we are left with the front page with the two ad spaces on it. What they manage to generate above the cost of for bandwidth would be the only thing to consider with regard to the purchase price. That and anything that might be valuable about the domain name appleinsider.com

Anyway I would be interested if there were actually someone to contact...

I don't see why people get worked up about not having new stories on the main page. Big deal. I'd rather have no news then fake reports. The forums are the main part of AI now anyway.

yeah, there are many other good rumor sites and the feeling on this forum is much better than all the others (MacNN has some "bamahs") and that is something I would not like to lose.

Okay, they don't HAVE to be "rich", I guess. But it would help. Someone with endless amounts of money to fling around and with a massive pro-Mac mindset.

Just so we would never have to worry about this site going under or being subject to the whims of this or that company buying it or not buying it, etc.

In other words, a cyber sugar daddy.

If you want to do it (and not fück it up), more power to you. I wish you the best!

I only say "rich" because then we wouldn't have to worry.

I think the best moments by far were when you'd wake up about 2 weeks before and expo and you'd see sketches of a new apple product and then have them taken down later that day. I loved that. Also for the people that were around here a few years ago, when workerbee posted the pics of the Mouse and the new Mobo...that was amazing. It's a shame we don't get stuff like that any more.

You're right, the forums are the only part of AI worth looking at. I just go strait to forums.appleinsider.com, skip the front page.

YAY! I AGREE 100% with you EmAn. Heck I have the 'Todays Active Topic" bookmarked so I dont have to bother with that front page!

It still is the PREMIERE site. All the other rumor sites suck 99% of the time.
