10 GB iPOD Coming Next Month?

According to Spymac.... I know, but they aren't any worse or better than other rumor sites, a upgraded iPod is coming at the current price along with a firmware update for all iPods. They guess price will be the same as present model (which is standard procedure for Apple updates). I suspect that remaining 5 GB iPods will be $299 ot $349 for as along as they last.

P.S. I wonder if the current 5 GB can be upgraded?

I doubt they'd go down to just 10 megs. Although losing 4.99 gigs would make it smaller, it still seems like a downgrade. </sarcasm>

I don't see why you couldn't replace the 5 GB drive in a current iPod with a 10 GB one if Toshiba has them. I really don't think Apple would put that much effort into preventing that from happening.

Well, I wouldn't believe anything that SpyMac says but this is a no brainer. However, I have seen the pictures and the 10GB drive is visibly thicker. It may take some tinkering to get it to fit in there.

As someone posted in the Spymac forums, distributors in Europe drastically reduced iPod prices recently. Seems true.. I hope they CAN maintain the same price point.

Someone needs to check his spelling/tech specs more carefully.

I do not believe a 10 Gigger will come. Maybe an upgrade kit to one

A 50 gig iPod would hold all of ny music files.

I was under the impression that the 10GB drives were the same thickness as the current 5GB drive. At least, that's what Toshiba's site said....

10GB is exact same size as 5GB. 20GB is a few mm thicker but most believe it would fit in iPod if Apple wanted it to

Making the iPod a hair thicker doesn't really seem like much of a chore.

Yeah, its so small already... I am sure a few "mm" wouldnt make that much of a difference...

For the extra storage, I sure wouldnt mind a few extra "mm"... IMO...

    Anyone else...

    depth 5.0mm

    breadth 54mm

    height 78.5mm

Same as the 5GB Toshiba drive. Same as the 10GB.

Might be too big of a GB size jump from 5GB . . . (to keep the same margin/price point)

So my vote is for 10GB

    and Macworld Tokyo sounds good.

They love little tiny techno gadgets.

expect those to sell like extra CRAZY in Japan after MWT.

    maybe they'll have a good better best . . .

    $350 5GB

    $400 10GB

    $475 20GB

they must have changed it. really. I could have sworn that when the 10 and 20 were first announced the 20 was slightly thicker

Yeah, I'm fairly certain that I read that the 20 GB one was 8 mm high (as opposed to 5 mm on the smaller drives). Makes sense b/c they have to fit another platter in there.

well if it is 5nm then thats super sweet....cause then that means that the iPod will most likely get a 5,10,20 config...hopefully the 20 gig one will have shites of extras and be more of a proPod

<sarcasm> It seems to me that a 5 nm HD would be a tad too flimsy... </sarcasm>

I hope they don't go with a 10Mg iPod. Seems it would be a huge step backwards.
