Anyone else (a little) scared?

I dunno, I'm excited about Apple's new aggressive stance. But part of me is a little worried about ticking off MS. I know, I know. Apple's got $4B+ in the bank. But still....

They are making some really impressive moves towards integrating software and making some waves. I love the direction they're going, but MS is a powerful bully.

I think that Apple can survive this battle, but I'm still concerned. Can someone assuage my fears? PLEASE.

Apple (nor anyone else) should have to kow-tow to Microsoft, shuffling around and kissing butt, just to be "happy to co-exist" or whatever.

Microsoft has plenty of money and resources. There's no reason they can't come up with stuff this cool if they wanted.

It's not Apple's fault they rock more.

It would make me physically ill to know that Apple put some sort of self-imposed governor/limiter on themselves just because they didn't want to tick off the "big bad wolf" in Redmond.

Keynote (as well as Safari, iChat, etc.) should INSPIRE and SPUR, not piss off, Microsoft.

I love what they're doing in software and portables right now. Desktops? ugh..

But back to software and how brilliant it is. iLife, stupid name, bloody marvelous concept: a multimedia suite, simple, but quite powerful when you take a look at it.

AND Office? Well, they seem to be going after it a piece at a time. Safari, iCal, Mail, Rendezvous, Keynote, the pieces are falling into place nicely. Right now they're taking on all the litle bits that aren't included in Mac :o ffice. They've got to be going through AppleWorks as we speak. Once they get a fully access/word/excel compliant Office suite ready, they'll be in really good shape to slug it oout with M$. Particularly if they stay true to including as much of this package as possible with their machines. Apple makes healthy money on hardware, thy can afford to give away software, M$ can't, not Office, for all their money, that piece of the pie is just too big!

it's fascinating. this will either tick off MS to no end, or make them push harder to make a better product. it wouldn't surprise me to see MS start incorporating the Mac features of Keynote into the PC and Mac versions of PowerPoint.

I thought about that too, Alcimedes.

Who wouldn't want their presentation software to be a bit more like Keynote?

Apple raised the bar pretty damn high this morning...

Yes, and of course making it far more complicated and idiosyncratic, justifying it as more customizable? if you have a CS degree.

It's exciting to see all these things coming to life. If they can get a nice Appleworks update soon, I won't have ANY Microsoft software on my PowerBook.

I haven't really been excited by software like I was today. What a day!

I've only done one PowerPoint presentation: I used black on white text because PowerPoint's templates were so bad, the transitions were embarrassing so I cut them out, the text was jagged, Office's auto-formatting pissed me off as always, and as I reviewed the slides just minutes before the presentation, I found the image I made for the title was being drawn backwards. My only option was to rotate it, so I had to cut it out. I did technically get more than my money's worth, however. Looking at Keynote, I thought 'this is how it should be done'.
