i am not usually influenced by steve's RDF, but for some reason, this macworld kicked booty for me. and i am SO buying a 12" powerbook. keynote was incredible cool (the software i mean)...
Safari rocks! Missing a few things but it's nice to see IE fall to the side because rendering doesn't seem to be an issue so far. I'm so tempted to sell my pBook/1 gig on ebay and get the new 17" aluninum one.
Now that the Red Hour of speculation has passed... it was an impressive show inspite of our expectations.
The GiganTiBook... hm, well actually their not Tibooks now are they...
Anyway, i'm not getting one. I can't justify it whether by features or price tag. But still, wow! I amazed at its design, but also sort of befuddled. It's big in a good sense, but it's also big in a ridiculous sense.

I think my favorite part of this MWSF keynote (other than all the sweet new hardware and software) was how Steve seemed to scold the rumor sites? like a little kid who had said something mean to his grandmother.
Seriously, this was the best Macworld ever. I would get the 12" PowerBook but I can't afford it even if I sell my 12" iBook.
Other things:
1. Now the iMacs will probably be updated later this month, and PowerMacs will probably be updated in February. And they'll all get FireWire 2.
2. When the PowerBook is revved, they'll definitely make a single 15" aluminum one available to fill the gap between portability and screen size. See? Apple's crafty! When people used to debate the TiBook enclosure, usually one side said replace it and the other side said don't. Well, out of left field Apple comes in and just modifies it and phases it out rather than replacing it outright.
3. I love how the iApps are still free! It's just getting better? iDVD was already charged for, now they include everything else with it when you buy it. Excellent.
4. Safari is okay but it's "very beta" just as Steve said. It doesn't remember window positions and I had to quit and relaunch it to get the bookmark and bug buttons to work. Also, I'm surprised it doesn't have tabs. It has "snap back" but that's not as good as tabs.
Whatever, there will be plenty of people saying the exact same things I am, so no use wasting any more of your time (and mine). I'm glad we had such a great Macworld, if this is the last one (which it might be), then they sure went out with a bang!

I think I played with Safari yesterday at a compusa store because the icon looks like the one that I clicked and launched. I thought it was Chimera that I started and thought to myself that Chimera is pretty fast, much faster than IE on this machine.
$49.00 for the iDVD and other apps bundle is reasonble. I hope these come with paperback manuals.
The new airport is great but, was is the range? I thought the .11g had a range of 50 feet vs the 150 feet of the current airport system.
A great show. Being perenially cash-strapped, I like getting new toys to play with that aren't very expensive. And tonight I'll have new iApps to play with, plus what appears to be a kickass new browser. And when the glow wears off of those, I can resume fantasizing about the new PowerBooks.
Note the prominent Microsoft ego massaging Steve offered while he rolled out two more apps targeted at MS. They've got Outlook, IE, and PowerPoint targeted now.
I wonder if AppleWorks will rise from the ashes on or around January 17th, when the Office promo expires.
The new AirPort and the new Base Station rock. I was waiting for this before getting my mom one, and the built-in USB printer sharing is absolutely perfect.
I now have an even more terrible lust for the PowerBooks. Keynote looks really cool for what it is, although I don't have much use for it. And I can't wait to d/l Safari and take it for a spin, even though it's not what I hoped it would be. The iApp integration is amazing.

I mentioned that in another thread. It does look like slowly, Apple is readying alternatives to all MS products. IE, Entourage and now PowerPoint. I wait for the next AppleWorks update

remember, one of the biggest knocks against appleworks was its presentation module. now you can just buy keynote, have compatibility if you want, and buy appleworks as well (though now i am 90% convinced they will break off the drawing/painting, word processing, and database apps for $99 a piece and go after office one brick at a time.
god, can you imagine having to write a program specifically for steve jobs? that keynote app must be one rock-f'n-solid chunk of code.
I think the New Powerbooks are cool, but am not going to loose sleep over just having a the 15.2" Ti Powerbook. Although, it seems that the new 54 Mbps wireless cards will not fit in the "old" powerbooks, and I find that somewhat disappointing. Wouldn't mind having that backlit keyboard either
Everything else was super...and I can't wait to get my hands on those new iApps...and possibly FCExpress and keynote.
Now that all the iApps are fully integrated I'd suspect that a tablet thingie will eventually be unveiled. Perhaps Apple is waiting to show it off at a special event just as they did with the iPod. More things definately coming in the way of portables. Also, the Yao Ming/What's his name commercial was a hoot.

I think the iMac will go 1000/867, just like the PowerBooks. It seems that iMacs are generally about the same clock speeds as PowerBooks in recent updates. But you never know. Now, also, the iBook will be able to get better without the danger of it stealing sales from the PowerBook. The 12" one is so appealing that I think it will steal sales from the iBook. And the 14" iBook is basically dead now?
