I'd get a dell too. They make good computers. If you like windows. I've only been on a mac for 6 months, and I love both my Dual1G and my Ti800. The only real reason I switched was for FCP3. If it hadn't been for that I'd still be on windows, but let me tell you, I would hate to have to go back. OS.X is so much better it's unbelievable! And that's compared to XP which is actually the only decent MS application since DOS (which was a big deal no matter what you think!)
what makes you think that computers will become that cheap, maybe those 200 dollar computers at walmart will but if u want cutting edge or even just 2nd best ur paying alot

So what if I ripped of DNA himself
When I woke up a week later I would, based upon my huge technical experience as sociologist, start reverse ingeneer Mac OSX and iBook (and a decent danish-english translator). Isn´t that what we are suppose to do when our civilisation is destroyed? Start over again building up our world?
I know I'd miss the hardware...but the software? Maybe an upgrade to the OS would be needed (and wouldn't there be someone out there fiddling with the open source code able to do some things?), but as far as applications...I think I could work with what I have for a few years...they don't really make amazing upgrades with most applications.
I'm pretty sure I could use Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and InDesign without having to get the next minor upgrade. If Quark never released an upgrade before Apple's "death" then maybe I can see myself "switch"...and I guess with plug-ins for web browsers too...I'm stopping...this is a depressing topic.
I'd buy whatever Apple hardware I could at discount. When Apple hardware is no longer viable a few years later, I would buy an HP or something better quality than a Dell and support all the little software makers I could when I buy the apps for it. Might try installing *nix, but I'm too lazy and probably too stupid to figure it out.
That would be a sad day...but I would probably just continue to use what I have today.
Sure there wouldn't be any further development, hey what else do you need. All my OS9 apps have served me well for so long... I imagine it could continue to do so for many more years.
But perhaps if it happens one day, there might be an underground faction who would continue to fight the cause.

building ur own PC is cheaper, and they are so much better for cheaper!
anyway, I'd go back to an Avid on WinXP probably.
