G4 Cubes and some people's obsessions.

I happen to be the "lucky" owner of a G4 Cube and was wondering why everyone loves those machines so much. I cant really understand it...I am a huge Mac fan but for the life of me I have never understood the obsession some have over the 8 inch disaster. I liked my Cube but never loved it...in fact I would even sell it for the right price...I just cant understand why coolness won out over EVERYONES judgement of the Cube.

I bought the thing because I paid the price, and am still wondering why I did.

    Just...because

I honestly cannot say why. Perhaps it is the exclusivity, the quietness, the fact i can upgrade it to dual-800s ( )

Just...because is honestly the best answer I can give.

Probably because there will never be anything else like it ever made. I love my Cube.

Just take a look at it. It's better looking than your iMac IMO.

How much is the "right price?"

I like it for the quietness(not anymore thanks to a 1394 drive), form factor, and the "toaster" CDRW. That, and I didn't have room for a tower.

Erm...I don't think coolness DID win, or they'd still be making the Cube, my friend.

Coolness won out over the people who DID buy them.

They make awesome headless servers! Because of its quietness, size and aesthetics you could put it in any room in the house. I want one.

I have had my Cube for 7 months now and even though i just lost my hard drive to the infamous "Maxtor/G4 controller error" I can happily say its the best computer I've ever owned. I doubt I'll ever sell it

BTW I put a new Seagate ATAIV 40gig and its totally silent (and the Maxtor is OK, I put it in my Quicksilver at work and its fine!!)

I'll always regret not getting one when they were still being sold. If there ever was a computer to have just for collector history sake, it is that one.

I think that they should re introduce the Cube. But instead have the iCube. It should come as follows

    1GHz G4 and Dual 800Mhz G4

    L3 Cache at 512K

L3 Cache at 1.5MB per processor

Max of 1.5GB of PC2700 Ram

    200GB Hard drive

    ATI 9000 Pro 128MB Video

    Superdrive

    Al the neccesary I/O ports

A special editon monitor that matches the cube.

If they came out with one of these I would put down $3000 right away to get one.

I may not have mentioned it before, but I didn't have the money prioritized for it then, and the situation is even more dire today.

All I knew, is that I did want one back then.

I got myself in hock to have one, and I still love it: everyone who sees it still gets the wow factor, and now that I've cleaned up the rat's nest of cables I've got the spangliest setup I could ever want.

Just waiting on those Powerlogix 1.2 GHz processors, and my baby's going to fly!
