Bad Windows 'features'

I want to make a thread of all the things that makes windows crappy, since i use windows as my main OS currently (hey the PC was free and i want a comp in my room) i find annoying things everyday. I think it would be nice to have a list of the things on why its so crappy.

Please try and not repeat and give legit answers...otherwise not TOO many "windows is gay cuz it is" please.

I would like if you could number each reason so its easy to view how many problems windows has by lookin at the current number

[Warning: Don't use that word in that sense again. Unnecessary. - J]

1)You can't move a files or programs while then are running.

    Example: If i'm listening to an mp3, if i move it...well i can't, it doesn't let me.

2)When you slect all, hitting right or left doesn't take you to the begining of ur selection, it takes you one over from your cursor.

Edit: You have to hold ctrl to get it to do this...not a big hassle but i'm not impressed

3)When you have text in any program, if u click under all of it to get the cursor there, it will take you directly in the text above where the cursor is, not to the end of it.

There are a nearly unlimited number of little extra settings buttons for your preferences. For example, you might open your mouse preferences... fair enough. You have two or three tabs for various categories. That's fine too. But each one of them has a "Properties" button or a "Details" button, sometimes there are even Properties nested within Details or vice versa. Makes it very difficult to find what you're looking for.

There are too many tabs in many preference windows, and sometimes they even have multiple rows of tabs. When there are multiple rows of tabs, the position of any given row of tabs will change depending on which tab is active. When they're constantly moving around it gets very, very annoying. As I see it, there shouldn't ever be so many tabs that such a system is necessary.

6)Some programs don't work, or don't allow others to work if u move them after you have installed them.

7)Horrible security holes that need constant patching.

If you think of 5 things you don't like, you're going to make 5 posts? Come on.

There. I have just ruined your little numbering scheme. Time to drop it I guess.

When you install something, it spreads files all over the place.

This holds true in OS X as well, IMHO. You have /Applications, then prolly a few folders in /Library, maybe even in /System. Of course another few folders in ~/Library, and if you're lucky, some in ~/Documents. And not in simple, clearly marked locations.

i didn't know most programs put things in all those places. I knew ~/library held prefrences, but unless its hardware, i didnt' know things were added to /library and /system...and what puts things in /documents? just curious

Dynamic shared libraries that aren't dynamic and don't share well. AKA, .dll hell.

it's special to be able to have 2 locations on your machine. and XP is the only one that can even do two.

location manager has been around so long on the Macs, why hasn't MS gotten to borrowing it yet? it's a great feature!

    My Computer

    My Documents

    My Archives

    My eBooks

    My Games

    My Movies

    My Music

    My Pictures

    MY GOD! STOP IT ALREADY!

But it seems that we OS X users have to deal with this now too. Still, I like it better on OS X than any Winblows OS...

    Microsoft's idea of "user friendly" is being !@#$%^& annoying! <img src="graemlins/oyvey.gif" border="0" alt="[oyvey]" />

O, btw, do any of you guys want to sign up for .NET?!?! If so, I'll remind you every 5 minutes to make sure. A&lt;--- This is called a letter. &lt;--- This is Bioflavonoid's definition of Microsoft's "user friendly" interface. Now, bring out the gay search dog!

Lately my PC has been rather selective about when it wants to work. For example:

Finals week was a couple of weeks ago, and I (being the procrastinator that I am) needed to type a final paper the night before it was due. That night, I attempted to start the computer three times. Attempt no.1: computer says "I'll make it look like I'm thinking about opening programs, while I actually do nothing for ten minutes". I force a shut down, and restart it. Attempt no.2: computer says "I'll teach you to shut me down! Ha! Have a nice blue screen while I refuse to do anything." I force it to shut down, and restart it. Attempt no.3: the darn thing didn't start at all. Needless to say, the stupid PC took away valuable hours of my paper-typing time because of its inability to function. Bah - Windows is so horrible. I can't wait for my minibook to arrive. Fourteen more days to wait....
