You realize that none of those inventions ever earned a coveted hahaha
Which I reserved exclusively for Kormac76/77, I always said that the original Dorsal's info was quite reasonable in fact, often to the point of being rather on the dissapointing side.

I was a lurker here for years on my old Performa 6320/120 CD before I took the plunge and decided to sign up. I remember reading with glee AI's "Power Mac G4 Special Report". I printed off a copy to my dad and showed it to him. He won't admit it but I think it was part of the reason why he wanted to hold out on getting that B&W G3/400 that I wanted so much. Looking back on that, it just seemed amusing, the idea of Apple really using the case concept used in the article. (i.e. B&W style, with a silk-screened "G4") And the article also mentioned that Apple was investigating offering the case in a "Strawberry" colour too...Anyway I never believed much of it until I saw AppleFritter's page on Power Express.
I also remember so well the AI report with the pirated internal drawings of the Kihei iMacs. Wow...what a sh!tstorm that raised...
no offense fran, but i have ALWAYS thought fran was a woman. but wondered since i joined in the days when mark was the unoffical "moderater" if fran might be a male, because of the writing style. but was always afraid to ask fearing "what if fran's a woman and gets offended by me asking?" so i never did. i got the shock of the day a few weeks ago when i visited the aicommunity site and saw frans pic! i thought "thank god i never asked" as i dont like offending people.
when i joined 1998? there was this months long war from pc users who invaded ai from some site i had never heard of called ars technica (i thought it was some exotic spanish bbs because of the name lol) in fact i think my first post was to ask someone what a lombard and a wallstreet was because there was alot of talk about them then.
i even saved alot of the ai site back then, it was and is a compelling place to visit.
i must have joined in 1998 because i belive it was the year after i got my ny times newspaper and i remember being shocked at that photo on the front page? of a tiny steve jobs looking up at this huge big brother like bill gates onscreen.
TigerWoods99 made the thread. I think he made a typo, so that's part of the official thread name.

Ok, so that's probably the best explanation I could have hoped for . Maybe second only to if JYD had made the typo... I mean.. gotten the thread drunk and it spilt the beans and tried to use the ( as a cover up.
What I wid like tae know is whatever happened tae the late, great, Kate? I was going tae ask her oot on a date but then the fickle hand o' fate slammed that particular gate (a thing I always hate) .
I was going tae ask her hame for tea and a scone, never knowing she would soon be gone.
Anyways, I remain yours truly Sir Mac o' the Isles; poet extraotdinaire tae al' you macophiles for a long, long while.
I was here starting sometime late in 1999 (gEEk at the time).

Yay! It's gEEk! I miss your informative posts. Why change names?
I used to stay up late to catch the rumor stories on MacNN Reality as soon as they were posted, twice a week, around midnight Eastern Time. The concept of Web-based bulletin boards didn't catch on with me. Until graduating from college in 1998, I firmly believed in Usenet newsgroups. Didn't join the AI boards until early 1999.
In similar fashion to applenut, I was Escher, am Escher, and will be Escher.

Mac o' the Isles' (now knighted I see! ) posts were amongst the most enjoyable for me in the early days of my AI romance although I didn't officially join until sometime in the latter half of 2000. If it wasn't for the blackout I don't think I ever would have signed up for the MacNN boards,... or the Flamingo boards... or the Powerpage boards... or the...
Although the topic which drew me to write in was my desire to see a subnotebook and the enjoyable discussions about subnotebooks that Sir Escher took part in.
My membership dates to January of 99 IIRC. Four years, wow, that is a long time. Before I became the ColanderOfDeath and swore vengeance and eternal trolling on the good people of AppleInsider I went by the name of EriMac. Also went by Woz's Apprentice as well for those times when I had something to say which would not have been appropriate for a moderator/administrator to say.
Little historical tidbit, Kormac was actually posting from South Korea, just as he claimed. And workerbee was posting from Apple which was not so bright.
One name not brought up here, Goatee. Wonder what happened to him and tree goat films?

He's on the late, lamented list with a number of other people who I haven't seen since the Great Blackout.

Besides conversations with kormac76 in the early hours of the morning, my fondest memories of the old AI center around subnotebook disussions. Actually, Kormac and subnotebook discussions often went hand-in hand. Anybody remember the e**** and the i**** v.1 and v.2?
Sir Escher? Thanks for bestowing the honor of knighthood upon me, Retrograde. I had no idea you were actually the Queen of England. (Isn't she the only one who can confer honorary knighthood? Any Brits here to clarify?)

It's actually quite amazing how many good and fun memories the AI oldtimers (and newer members) have built over the years. It's also quite amzing how the AI Boards have outlived (practically speaking) AppleInsider -- once a respected rumors publication -- despite repeated management blunders and changes in ownership.

Wow, EriMac. Thank you for confirming what we always suspected but never knew for certain. I wish both kormac76 and workerbee were still with us. Even though the discussion here is still worth following, there's been a lack of flashy visionaries with reliable Apple connections or at least feet planted firmly on realistic ground.

Fly me up to New York in July and you can. Of course, I'd have to be at MWNY first...

Amen.
I registered at the end of 1998 as Some Other Name, trying to keep up on Apple news with my little PB1400 in Germany.
Funny. I hit all of the Mac news sites daily, with the exception of MacObserver. Maybe it's subconscious. Or maybe I'm just too lazy.
Back then it was the scoops that drew me here, but since they're a little scarce these days, it's the forums.
