Buy iPod now or later?
Just wanted to ask if you guys think it wouldn't be wise to buy a 10 GB now. Are there supposed to be new ones released soon? Any scoop at all? I don't really care about hard drive size or price but I just hope I don't buy one now and next month an iPod with many enhancements comes out that I can't use on the current versions.
P.S. - I've been salivating over the iPod ever since they were released but especially after I bought my Power Mac G4 last March. Does anyone think that this will be worth the wait?

What we know about the supply of 5GB and 10GB drives leads us to believe that we'll see 10 and 20GB drives slot into the previous 5 and 10Gb price points, with the probable end of the 5Gb model.
WAIT for new models.

So you're saying that with an update we'll see 10 and 20 GB models with cheaper prices and maybe a 40 GB model at top of the line? IMO that is not worth the wait. However if they release a color screen iPod or update some kind of software thing that older unit owners can't use then it is worth waiting for.
I don't know if there will be new features but if you can, it wouldn't hurt to wait.

Or for something practical, why not ask Apple to fix the battery issue, perhaps by re-design to accept regular AA batteries or, at the very least, user replacable cells.
Color screen? Height of uselessness.

Well, if I could get a 20 GB iPod for the price of the current 10 GB then that would make the wait immensely worthwhile.
At this point I agree with that 100% and just couldn't think of anything better. But you see what I mean. Also I know that price/space is important I just don't really care about that. I only have about 3 GB of music....

To me they sound fine but are extremely uncomfortable, so I don't use them.
Thanks! I swear every minute I use it, I'm more and more happy with my decision to splurge and go out and buy one. I can now see why so many people feel that it's the only mp3 option for the Mac.
One question...should I have plugged it into the wall and let it charge for 4 hours before even touching it? I couldn't wait that long but I really hope I didn't somehow shorten the battery life...

nah i wouldn't worry, when I got my first iPod it was delivered to my school (PC-only at the time (it was the very first batch of iPods), first thing the tech guy ordered from apple ever, now they have 2 dual 867s ) and I could NOT wait to open it... i turned it on right away and played pong the whole rest of the day still works great without problems, at least my brother hasn't said anything about there being problems...
although, within the first 10 min I got my first scratch on the front
dont forget to post in the iPod thread in DH
congrats, even if they update it, the month you got to use the iPod will be worth whatever loss in value happens... trust me

Like some turkey a while back who complained about the superdrive/Ghz TiBook bump right after he bought an 800. Wasn't just about everyone saying WAIT.
Still, it's a good little gizmo, enjoy!
Let us know how the battery holds up...
Why do people start these threads asking if it's a good time to buy and then ignore the advice?

I was thinking the same thing myself. The iPod is a great little device, but all indications are that is will be updated soon. Very soon.
Oh well. Enjoy it! I love mine.
