Is it really fair to put HP and Compaq on a list together? After all HP does own Compaq...

Apple needs to be in the Top 5 for Laptops as well. They'd be looking pretty good if that was the case. All in all not bad considering Apple might have much better hardware coming down the pipe.

It counts retail sales. Dell doesn't do retail.

This is retail... RETAIL. Not institutional, not business, not direct order, RETAIL. Point of sale, in a bricks and mortar store where a consumer walks in, picks something up and walks out.

Doesn't mean squat about Market Share.

Get it? Considering Apple's burgeoning retail presence, 3.8% of RETAIL desktop sales isn't that bad. But they're still getting slaughtered in marketshare, it ISN'T going up, and they're still suffering from lack of competitive desktop prices and performance.

It's a Daewoo brand. They made some iMac knock-offs and got sued a few years back.

These figures look good to me, as they probably mean the AppleStore initive is going well.

    Got it.

But where, oh where is Gateway? At least Apple can probably weather through there brick and mortar escapade (Gateway is closing down stores left and right) and Apple's online sales are good. Gateway though is losing $400,000,000 a year, so they just laid off another 1,900 workers. Gateway has been tanking ever since they lost AMD in '01. And they'll probably be gone by the end of this year.

Just wonder if we Apple users should consider this a small victory...or the shades of things to come. I hope the former.
