well... that sucks... I hope I can still get a free attendee pass like last year...

I might be going to summer classes and stay up here 6/24-7/31 so I was debating if i should make the trip for more then one day...

since my classes will probably be late on T TH i'll see if i can make the wed and thurs exhibit days this sucks...

You should save the money you would spend to go down to MWNY, and save it for MWSF 2004. You should then make absolutely sure that you attend one of my conferences there, because I'm totally determined to run my 'Smart Content Creation' lecture again

well it will only be the Amtrak ticket as I will probably be going home so it will only cost me about a weeks pay....

as for going out to SF... while I would LOVE to do something like that... to drop around $1000 on something as fleeting an an expo... I mean this is just a hobby... I'm not making a living doing it... (any ideas on how to do the latter?)

M3DJack, I'm disappointed. How could you believe that ThinkSecret BS?

There will be a MWNY, Apple will attend, there will be a keynote. IDG's just going to have to let Apple attend for nothing. They will still make plenty of money. Right now, IDG is just trying to get Apple commit to the Boston show before they make that deal finalized. That's the latest info and we should know more in a few weeks.

Nick, I'm sure it will be an interesting read as always.

Think Secret always has some interesting stuff to read, but so does Mac OS Rumors Think Secret is in my books and so is Macrumors with that last minute prediction of the 12 and 17 inch PBs on the eve of MWSF03.

If Jobs aint there. So what? He'll still be Apple Ceo. Still focused on San Fran'. We'll still have one major Mac show a year. Apple may focus more on Seybold in August. Do we really need New York, Paris, London and Seybold all in 6 months? At a million or so $ a pop? Apple need to reduce wastage here. They need to be profitable and to stop profits flat lining before shows.

Maybe...just maybe they'll launch the 970 post WWDC? Or at Seybold with a Quark 6. That would make more sense.

I like the Jobs keynote. But if Apple make the show into more of an Apple seminar show with more guest speakers and workshops? I'd see that as okay.

It won't mean we don't get products anymore. Look at what Apple has done so far this year. Much not at a show.

I totally agree with you Lemon. I'm sure that the MacWorld Trade shows are very expensive for Apple. Especially the flat line of sales that happen just prior to the show. I like the Keynote as well and I have watched a good majority of them on Quicktime Stream. Good things always come to an end, but maybe they will work something out. I wouldn't be disappointed if Jobs just had one Keynote per year and announced products quitely as they have currently been doing. Have one Keynote per year at the Macworld Trade Shows or have it a Seybold in August or something, but of course the WWDC will still be around

Well Nick, Monday and Tuesday have come and gone with no news at all. Do you have any more info?
  • Reply 16 of 31
Yes Nick, where is the info that you were all telling use to watch out for. I am too awaiting you reply.

    Mac OS X Addict,

An announcement won't be made until Apple signs off on it. Last week, an announcement was anticipated for Monday or Tuesday, but new delays have been introduced.

If you had to ask me now, I'd point to this time next week, but that could clearly change.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Nick,

Is this new deal just a one time thing or is it committing Apple to a number of Expos, ie: MWNY03 and beyond? I would like to see the Keynotes continue, but if they have to cut some out then so be it.

    Mac OS X Addict,

Interestingly, it appears that this only concerns the summer show in 2003. No agreement has been reached for -- nor has there been any real discussion about -- future summer shows in Boston or New York.

I would speculate that it is somewhat dependant on how successful this summer's show is. Additionally, with the departure of IDG World Expo chief Charlie Greco, one of IDG's most adamant supporters of the Macworld Boston show is gone ... all bets are off, and no one really knows what 2004 will bring.

    Nick,

Do you know anything about the MWSF shows or will they be cancelled to if there is no agreement?
