Gotta love an honest salesperson

I was in the Apple Store this afternoon playing with one of the new dual 1.42 Powermac's, I currently have a 933mhz PM. Just for the heck of it I asked if they had any in stock, they had 3.

I looked at my wife & she shrugged with a grin on her face, when I was about to tell the salesman I'd take one he asked if I had ever owned a Mac.

When I told him what I had he said, please your fine with what you have, save your money until the next time.

It was refreshing to hear a salesperson not just trying tp push the latest and greatest and actually have the customer in mind.

the apple store sales people do not make a comission. I have had them recommend websites to buy stuff like ram.

they are trained to be helpful to the customer rather than to promote sales

I used to be exactly like that when I worked at Best Buy. Send people here and there on the net for better deals on RAM and stuff. I didn't work on commission and the managers hated me for it. They just wanted me to say my spiel and sell service plans. When I applied there I was under the impression I was supposed to help people, not sell service plans and MSN internet plans. It is refreshing to talk to my friend Scott who works at my local Apple Store. He loves his job, and if I'm lucky, I may have a job there soon as well.

BTW AppleStore Chicago is coming along. They were working on the steel two Saturdays ago. It's not unusual to see construction on Saturdays in Chicago but it does mean they are trying to make a deadline. Pepper Construction is doing it too and they have a habit of coming in on time. I know some of the people at Pepper, used their Skybox at Wrigley a few time  . My guess is that they are shooting for a summer opening. Just thought I'd interject.

If a store has better customer service and more honest sales people, even with commissions and slightly higher prices, I'd rather shop there.

I want to buy from a place that I know I can take my business back to time and time again because they care about my happiness, not just making some money.

I travelled a few hours away to buy my iBook because of the pushy sales people at the local store. I knew exactly what I wanted... yet they pushed more expensive product on me constantly. "You should really get the 12'' Powerbook!" Sure, give me the extra $500 and I'll do it! Then they promised my iBook was being held for me. Then it wasn't there when I went to pick it up. Then it was supposed to be in tomorrow... then tomorrow again and again. Everytime I went in to check, my computer wasn't there and they kept suggesting more expensive models. So I called a store thats about 2 hours away and they had 3 in stock. I drove there the next day and got some of the best customer service ever. I would drive there again in a heartbeat. Helpfull, informative and sold me exactly what I wanted.

The fun part was, one week later, they called with the "good news". "Your computer is in! You can buy it now." Oh, the pleasure of telling him I already had mine. The sound of disappointment in his voice was worth the drive. Well, that and my snazzy new iBook.
