is the most annoying and rudest icon you have. There are a few assholes here who love to use them and it belittles posters. Everytime I see a post with one I wish I could slap the person on the other end because it's so frickin annoying.

I suggest that please be removed so that these forums can be less about grandstanding and more about information sharing. All the other icons are tolerable, but I seriously feel the icon encourages assholes to be rude to others. Please delete the icon, the new <img src="graemlins/oyvey.gif" border="0" alt="[No]" /> is cool and fun enough without it being insulting.

That's my suggestion and I'm prepared to be flamed with many posts. Why? Because they are that many smart asses and wannabe bad asses here.

Now you are describing the type of situation that encourages me to use that particular emoticon. When people post worthless annoying drivel that doesn't deserve a written response sometimes nothing expresses the particular emotion you are feeling more than a nice

I can't believe you are actually distressed by the presence of a particular emoticon rolling it's eyes in response to a post. If you can't take the fact that some people don't agree with what you have to say or give much value to your opinions then a public online message board might not be the best place for you.

Eskimo: I have to back KidRed up on this one. Why have a emoticon that, in short, is nothing but arrogant? And it has nothing to do whether to agree or not with each other. I like a good argument like the next guy but this particular emoticon is a show stopper. It just show that the user, as you say, don´t give much about the posters arguments, but don´t bother saying why. And that is bad for the discussion here IMHO.

Take your post as an example. If you had posted nothing but a I could not have argued with you because I knew nothing about your arguments.

And no its not because I have something against or have strong feelings against those posters here that use it a lot. The person who uses them most is one of my favorite posters.

And the standart "I am not alone"-argument: I have talked about this on the chat on a couple of occations and people tend to agree. Yes I know the argument is weak but that is what I have experienced.

Finally: I know that people can find the gif elsewhere and use it as they like but why encourage it.

My humble opinion... If an emoticon is enough to hurt your feelings... well, then, you really need to get away from the computer a bit...

Turn it around: whoever uses the immediately labels him or herself as a jerk to the rest of the community.

Except Applenut. I think he probably invented the post

Remember: If I wanted to kick your butt I am only a few hours away (Norway right?)

But on the topic: I am serious.

It doesn´t hurt my feelings. But the problem is that it spoils the discussion.

If only it was so. Long time posters can get away with a lot of things that new posters can´t. Like in every society we have a hieracy here and the is a symbol that can strengthen(SS) a posters position by creating a line between those who get rolleyed and those who rolleye other.

LOL, it doesn't hurt my feelings but it hurts the overall nature of these forums. This topic is not a plee to remove these icons because of any reponses to my posts, it's the responses to other posts and posters. If you had "shut up asshole" icon, that would be used ridiculously often, I'm sure. No, I'm trying to stick up for some people who are either not as techie as the next, foreigners with bad english or giddy youngsters that post here every now and then.

See that's exactly what I mean, the posts that would do that to you are turning you into an ass everytime you use that icon. If the same idiot said the same thing on the street, you might say the same words, but I don't think the extra"rolling of the eyes" would happen. A lot of people would get shot or beat down if they rolled their eyes as much as this forum does, lol.

And as far as the destressing over this and the forums not being the best place for me, please, you're reading too much into my post. I am trying to do my part in suggesting what could make these forums a nices place to be. I know the assholes will always post, but I find if you have something intelligent to say, they you don't need to rolleyes. And I'm noit distressed, I'm angry, like I said I wish I could bitch slap every asshole who does it. Because more then half of them wouldn't do that shit in public. I'm not trying to turn these forums into Mayberry, but they could be a lot more 'intelligent' and less arogant. If half these assholes had no rolleyes icon, they wouldn't be posting as much, cause they'd have nothing constructive to say without their "I feel good and this guy's is an idiot so let me spit in his face with this degrading icon". I'm a little surprised that I am the only one that seems to be perturbed by the promotion of cowerdice arogance. Oh well I guess, maybe mostly everyone here is like I had feared, they just don't give a shit about anyone else.

Maybe we need a :****youicon: so at least they have a rebuttal icon to the rolleyes ?

Anders- At least you sem to get what I'm saying, thanks

    I agree with Anders.

A message board is about that, messages and ideas. It's ok to disagree and post different point of views. Argue about misinformation and add knowledge to topics at hand. Post doubts and get answers. Discuss, experiment, share, learn.

Persons that frequently use the rolleyes emoticon do so mostly directed at other persons rather than their posts. I don't mind being on the receiving end of such an expression and probably have been a few times already anyway. But it speaks more about the one who uses it than the one intended for.

If you don't agree with another user about his(her) ideas, and don't have anything intelligent to add to the discussion, using the rolleyes icon makes you no better or smarter than the other. Just naive and childish.

KidRed and I had a conflict in another thread because I "ripped into another poster" that may be debateable... but that is not the point. I did not use and neither did he, but we still seemed to manage an argument that was thought-provoking and effective from both points of view... the is not NECESARY to have on these boards and does not really add anything to the discussion, so why have it? People should be able to disagree without having to "deal" with the icon...

    my 2¢.

Thank you and yes, we were both civil and mature in our disagreement and we now understand each other. You illustrate my point beautifully, that's how forums should be. A chance to debate and argue without someone slinging mud in your face.

EmAn- I ducked your slinging mud....

I'd also like to add that sometimes can be entertaining... like with Johnathan's post in AO (I forget the thread, but it was pretty funny..) so maybe not banned, just something llike limited... if thats possible of course...

If these were my boards, I would shut the damn thing off or force it to be coupled with another emoticon*. These will never be my boards.
