*Of course all the flesh colours (I say mult-culturally).
Do you have any idea how many flesh colours there are?

Let me help you: more than four.

I'm approaching middle age and the need for a "get off my lawn" sign, but I'm an entrenched Apple ecosystem user because things just work.  I don't have to worry about standing on one leg and holding my tongue just right and hope that whatever awesome tech junk I bought will work that day.  Apple makes things simple and makes their stuff work well together.  That said, I have yet to purchase Air Pods.  I have had them in my cart many times ready to pull the trigger but then I pause because these were released in 2016.  We are coming up on 2018, so shouldn't there be some sort of refresh coming out?  Not sure what that is aside from a different case (separate purchase anyhow, I know) but I'm nervous about spending the 2018 price on 2016 tech and then right after they come out with something that has a slight change...but in Apple I trust to change when needed and not "because".

So here I sit, waiting still.  I'm sure someone reading this knows there is no refresh or upgrade coming and if that's the case I'd be happy to know.  :)
Don’t hesitate. Just do it. I was in the same boat. Finally pulled the trigger. Never looked back. Fit. Usage. All. Maybe I’m not objective (comment from wife: nope. He is far far away from anything remotely objects ;) ) but bought as gimmick I wouldn’t want to miss them anymore.

Oh, and one more comment: attention to detail! The box snaps open and close in a way that Douglas Adams called “a satisfied sigh- like quality to it. “Hummmmmmmyummmmmmm ah!”  Well, almost. Likewise I’m amazed how smoothly the AirPods Slip in and out of the box.
this is what is called “perceived quality”.

Oh, and yes, I do have a real life as well ;)

I've come full circle on these. I thought they were absurd when they were released. Now I'd like to own a pair. But I can't buy them until the case will allow me to put third party (or Apple?) silicone sleeves on the AirPods. It's the only way they will fit and stay in my ears. Please Apple. Just add a couple of millimeters of top end clearance in the case and I'll buy.
I have a good friend who is an Apple fan and really wanted to love the AirPods. Unfortunately, they are simply not compatible with his ear geometry and they won't stay in. That's expected, though. One-size-does-not-fit-all. :/

haha, that's exactly what I did.  then black friday/monday rolled around and she bought "us" a new Dyson v8 as a gift for us both.  DOH.  I figured it's too close to xmas to buy for myself, i could see her still getting them for me since I told her over a month ago that was what I wanted
Dyson V8. That was another product I was reluctant to drop a stupid amount of money on at first. Then, I used it and ended up throwing all my other vacuums including upright, canisters, and handhelds in the garbage.

I think the white colour is part of the marketing thing that my recollection happened by accident. I think they made the original headphones in white only because it was the cheapest colour but they stood out and everyone knew you were using Apple gear. They then used that in the silhouette marketing promos for the iPods and subsequent iPhones. Now you see the contrasted white Airpods in peoples ears quite clearly and everyone has them (well mainly not so prominent in the Gym but around the place they are good and a lot of people I personally know who were skeptical are now big fans).

Think alternate colours are not in Apples marketing interest but there are companies that will colour them for you and AI had a competition for them in the past.

    Cheers Dr Hawk

Or even some fun colors.  I've seen silicone sleeves for them that let you add color or pattern, but color from Apple would be nice.

I just bought AirPods about a week ago. Knowing another model is coming out in 2018, maybe just a case for wireless charger, maybe an upgrade, only Apple knows, but I like the sound so much, I am willing to buy another one if comes out next year. Even though they don't stick in my ears but just sound quality alone worth to keep them even using occasionally, wirelessly indoors with Apple TV or iPhone, etc... I am an audiophile, and own tons of headphones from $100 to audiophile Sennheiser IE 800, HD 800 and soon to own HE1 once my car is sold, and various other brands, and I know AirPods sounds reasonably good for that price. Lucky are those ears that can hold and keep these pods while running, dancing, etc...

Yet another obvious disconnect between what is said in comment sections about Apple products and what real users want and do in the real world. AirPods continue be maligned and denigrated by denizens of tech forums like AI, MacRumors, 9to5Mac, and others. But in the real world they are a hit. I watched this week’s Mac Break Weekly and it contained a segment about the MacBook Pro. After Leo La Porte, Andy Ihnatko, and Rene Ritchie (to a smaller extent) got through trashing and tearing the MacBook Pro limb from limb, from keyboard to Touch Bar, Leo La Porte heaved a big sigh, lowered his head and said, “But they’re selling really well. A lot of people are buying them.”

So it’s always the same meme from the so-called techie crowd. People who buy Apple products are stupid and that’s really the only explanation that crowd has for why something like the AirPods have succeeded in the market place.

Like the American justice system, MacBreak Weekly is the worst Apple podcast, except for all the others. Leo can best be described as a former Apple user. He’s only on the ‘cast because he owns it. I liked Andy better when he was an Apple fan. Now he is an Android user whose only remaining Apple device is an iPad, but as soon as Android comes up with one that’s less than horrible he’ll jump to that too. By and large he’s fair, but he spends most of his time offering counters to anything positive about Apple. The resident Android apologist. Were it not for René and Alex, this podcast would be better titled “People Who Don’t Use Apple Products Discuss Them.” Here’s a suggestion, TWIT. Lose Leo, bring Andy on as a special guest once in a while, and let Alex and René run the show along with some new Apple specialist.

I've considered running a pool on how long it takes in an episode of MacBreak Weekly for Andy to complain about the MacBook Pro keyboard, usually unbidden. I mean, I get that he doesn't like it, but he refuses to accept anyone else does, or that it doesn't bother them. I think all of them, with the possible exception of Rene, have fallen into the "no true professional" fallacy, like much of the tech press have. They refuse to acknowledge that any of the people who are buying the MacBook Pro might be professionals, or might actually like it. It's not like they're the only people saying this, but they keep going on about it, week after week. (And if Alex Lindsay brings up licensing macOS to run on other hardware again, I may commit acts of violence against an innocent iPhone.)

On the other hand, and perhaps relevant to this article, they have all been fairly positive about the Air Pods (amongst other things). I have to say I quite like mine, and they seem to have lasted longer than my corded ones usually did. Although lately, I've been having problems with volume, and not being able to hear things, even when at full volume. I don't think it's my hearing going, and I will be disappointed if my Air Pods are prone to similar problems to my Ear Pods, which I had to replace every 8 months or so.

I'm a sucker for a gimmick.  But now I'm in the pre-Xmas doldrums where I can't buy anything for myself because it might step on presents.  I'm too impulsive for this time of year to be fun :)

Is there an accessory that I can attach to Airpods to loop around my ear, or otherwise keep them in place, that isn't a pain in the arse to remove for charging?  The earpiece design simply will not stay in my ear for more than a 10 or so minutes while sitting still, and considerably less than that if I'm moving, such as during a workout.
