Apple diverting worker shuttles because of smashed windows

in General Discussion
Apple is rerouting the daily buses that drive workers from San Francisco to Cupertino following incidents of broken windows, according to an internal email.

"Due to recent incidents of broken windows along the commute route, specifically on highway 280, we're re-routing coaches for the time being," the company said in an email sent Tuesday night, seen by Mashable. "This change in routes could mean an additional 30-45 minutes of commute time in each direction for some riders."

Neither Apple nor local police have confirmed the cause of the damage. An officer with the California Highway Patrol, Art Montiel, said that the agency is investigating with Apple.

At least four shuttles have reportedly suffered damage driving down 280, in incidents between Jan. 12 and Jan. 16. One took place outside Los Altos Hills, and another near the city of Woodside.

Speculation by Apple employees and others has blamed rocks or even gunshots. San Francisco has long dealt with an undercurrent of resentment against shuttles run by companies like Apple and Google, accusing them of driving up rents in neighborhoods along routes -- a serious issue in a city already unaffordable to many people.

Another possibility is that Apple's buses are simply falling prey to the kind of indiscriminate highway attacks that have affected other U.S. cities. In Austin, Texas for instance, drivers along Interstate 35 have occasionally been pelted by rocks dropped from bridges.

Switch to cars, then... an easy solution to a problem that does not exist. The real problem is not buses, run by companies, but the companies themselves. They pay their employees good salaries.
So, California, I advise you to stifle the business even more, that they will deem reasonable to remove their businesses from Cali and move to Texas or Arizona.
That will solve the problem, by making SanFra into Detroit where housing is VERY cheap.

edit: it is a tax prep season, so I decided to rename the state into Taxes.

Why do people have to be stupid and damage someone else's property? Why can't people just leave shit alone that isn't theirs?

How the fuck can you claim that smashed windows are "a problem that does not exist"?

Not too long ago in an eastern coast city, a gang of kids was dropping rocks from bridge overpasses onto cars passing below because they thought it was funny.  One woman was killed and several other cars went off the road injuring the occupants.

Police need to step up surveillance or someone will eventually end up dead.  Although the reroute is painful for the Apple employees, it is the prudent thing to do until the culprits are apprehended.

The problems is residents of the areas where these misguided protests and violence are happening tend to believe they are entitled to housing that is cheap and plentiful. In California, neither is possible because of overregulation and in the Northern part of California the land is very limited there... unless perhaps developers turn to seasteading or subterranean housing to increase the available "land".

Because they essentially encouraged to do so by the constant barrage of class warfare propaganda spread by Democrat socialists. They are told that its unfair that these high paid, highly skilled workers get nice things but are the cause of their pain. They are told that theryt are oppressed by the wealthy who got their wealth on their backs. They are told they are entitled to all the perks of education and work without actually having to do any of it. They are told those highly skilled and highly paid tech workers are living on the Elysium space station while they suffer along with Matt Damon on Earth. Class envy, jealousy, and the sense of entitlement will be the death of democracy and the end of prosperous economy.

Whoa!  You forgot the "sarcasm" tag on your post, right?  Or you've got it upside down?

It's not "Democrat socialists" (whoever they are) that "constantly barrage" the "class warfare" views you list.  "Class jealousy" as you describe it, comes from the bottom-up (think trump) and is propagandized by right wing advocates.
Democrats - for all their liberal, artsy, Hollywood, elite faults - just seem to want everyone to be treated equally and get a break.

Or maybe you were just making a bad joke ;-(

The people you cited do not want to treat people equally. They want to dictate to others how their own money will be spent after they are taxed to oblivion to support their particular politics and causes of progressives. That’s not fair, moral or laudable.

I did not claim that. I said that the raising cost of tenting is a problem that does not exist. Do you know why? Because those terrible companies AND their employees pay taxes to SanFran. If you remove them (and their money), it will be the end of SanFran. So, on one hand, the rent goes up, on another people bring in more money to the area.

Treated equally? If they wanted to do that, they would have implemented a flat tax LONG TIME ago, instead of talking about "fair share". But they did not implement it. Why?
    I
Currently the upper 50% of taxpayers (starting with 40k a year salaries) pay 97% of income tax in America, while top 10% pay 70% of all income taxes in the USA.
But by all means, go ahead, explain to me, how Democrats "just seem to want everyone to be treated equally and get a break".

It’s the premise that Apple employees are the source of the Bay Area housing costs that looks like is being questioned.

    Hey SF? Pay attention.

"The company plans to establish an Apple campus in a new location, which will initially house technical support for customers. The location of this new facility will be announced later in the year," says a company announcement today.”

Correction to this. That rock thrower was caught. It was initially thought that rocks were being thrown from bridges or an access road that ran parallel to a low-lying section of I-35, but it turned out it was the work of one man that would throw rocks from his vehicle to the other side running in the opposite direction. He is serving a 40 year sentence.

Well, do we have IKrupp speaking here or SpamSandwich?

iKrupp cited "Democratic socialists", I merely coloured them in as  the "liberal, artsy, Hollywood, elite" as some people like to describe them.

"The people" (as you say) that I cited, actually do believe that people should be treated equally, they just also believe that you are what you make of yourself.

Where did you get all this "
They want to dictate to others how their own money will be spent after they are taxed to oblivion to support their particular politics and causes of progressives." stuff?

You are confusing the "Democratic Ideal" with the on-the-ground political actuality.  Talk to some Democrats & Republicans - see how their views of "how the people should be treated" differ.  Vote your conscience.

I suspect most of these incidents are "gentrification backlash" rather than stupidity inspired vandalism. It doesn't really matter either way, the resulting violence is indefensible and reprehensible. The people riding the bus are not co-conspirators in some elaborate scheme to disenfranchise existing residents from their affordable homes and peaceful living spaces, there just working stiffs trying to get by just like everyone else who has to work for someone else and cop to someone else's rules - like where to place factories, offices, and campuses. The people on the bus and the people throwing rocks at the bus are on the same side of the equation -people just trying to get by and live a decent life without fear or BS.

The city/county/state/federal planners and politicians are the ones who control how public space gets allocated and used through zoning regulations and construction permits. Sure, in many cases the people who are calling the shots have self interests in mind, are shortsighted planners, are biased towards a certain constituency, or don't consider larger socio-economic issues that will eventually come into play with uncontrolled development. There's rarely a "master plan" by the planners to achieve the right balance between growth and opportunity for all, they're just winging it like most everyone else in government service, trying to survive until the next time they have to prove their worthiness to keep drawing a paycheck.

No way to sugar coat this behavior in any way. Sometimes people just suck and do stupid and completely selfish things, like attacking innocents.
