Will HomePod stream from an iTunes music library on the local network?
Nope. You can use iTunes Match and iTunes in Cloud, but there's no Home Sharing option.
Thanks, Soli. I’m a little dismayed that no one supports this, but I guess the future is streaming. People who love high quality sound, and music in general, also tend to support local musicians, who won’t be available on streaming services.
If you use the iTunes Remote app, you can open a Home Sharing library and playback to a HP. It just doesn’t appear to have a siri interface to do it by voice.
I'm going to have Amazon Echo Alexa and HomePod Siri have a conversation once the latter arrives and I ask which is the better speaker. I wonder what they'll have to say to each other. 😉
Ima wondering what will happen in all the home that has Alexa listening in the background when this commercial comes on the TV...
This is becoming an issue for me with both "Alexa" and "Hey Siri" devices listening. I had to "mute" everything while trying to listen to a TWiT podcast this weekend where Leo kept saying "Hey Siri". An Episode of Dark Shadows kept triggering one of my Echo devices the other day. TV commercials will wake them up and there was a period a few weeks ago where some commercial that said nothing about Alexa would trigger one of my Echo devices in another room to start playing a genre of music I have no interest in - even though it couldn't hear me saying, "Alexa, stop."
