With the forums half-down, I'm not sure how to get in touch with the mods.

My mom has a cunt. Your mom has a cunt. Everyone's mother has a cunt. It was said for dramatic effect and not to insult. You need to take that 10 foot rod out of your ass.

bullshit....the "c" word is highly offensive and is ONLY used in the most hostile of ways....my mother has a vagina, so does my wife and both my daughters....if you used that other word to any one of the four women i just mentioned i would kick your ****ing ass so damn hard you would shit through you eyelids for the rest of your very short life....g

Gentlemen, I believe the bottom line here is that society in general considers usage of the word in that context as impolite and inappropriate. I know you all know how to act properly, and you know when to say certain things and when not to. So regardless of whether or not everyone's mother "has one" and despite the dramatic effect that was attempted, those reasons do not justify the action nor are they the only ways of achieving dramatic effect, respectively.

Then again, it was in Fireside Chat, and, well, there are reasons some 'people' are not terribly enamoured with keeping that forum around.

i dunno... offensive, yea... but since when was bad taste a crime? I thought it was a right... If you don't like it - feel free to point out why, but I think everyone should speak their mind... you can't know someone well if you don't know what their thinking.....

    btw: I'm a c-section too...

I'm glad there are other civil and intelligent folks on AI. Thanks.

Also, there are rules in the posting guidelines about this:

    5. Sexually graphic or otherwise offensive material is strictly forbidden. AppleInsider will strive to maintain a work-friendly and family-friendly environment in regards to pornography and hate-speech. These cases are up to the discretion of the moderators and administration.

Pursuant to this, toilet humor is not tolerated. It is expected that the membership can conduct themselves with enough maturity to avoid such idiocy.

    7. While foul language is tolerated to a certain extent, profanity in the title of threads is not allowed. Excessive, unnecessary use of profanity (again, at the moderators' discretion) is not welcome.

It's not a crime. However, AI is a private place, and as such, you are not promised free speech nor do you require it. We do have a <a href="http://forums.appleinsider.com/guidelines.html"; target="_blank">set of guidelines</a> that we would like people to uphold. We would also like to think that we don't have to hold people's hands in order to get them to exhibit some proper social skills.

Basically, if you want to be rude (and yes, that comment was rude for those who cannot tell) it is suggested that you participate on another board that accepts that sort of behaviour.

I'm trying to think of any social situation, even amongst my closest friends rather than a bunch of people I know a few snippets about through a web browser, where such a comment as that at the top of this thread would be considered anything other than completely inappropriate.

    And I honestly can't.

Immature? Poor tact? Inappropriate for an international discussion forum?

    Yes, yes, and yes.

It's not being thin-skinned, it's called having a little class.

Old enough to be mature enough to not be offended by silly little words.

No stop beating me with your words! The physical harm! Someone on an internet forum said something I feel is distasteful! I am forever scarred!

    Feh, get over it.
