Edited Title: Locking threads again

Posted:
in Feedback edited January 2014
Orginally posted in reference to the thread on Microsoft's punishment:

It was not on the same topic. It was not in reference to the existing M$ punishment. It was to post, as the title indicated, our own personal thoughts on what should have happened.

I have been here for 2 3/4 years and I think I know not to post redundant topics. It wasn't redundant. The mods should spend more time policing threads like this:

<a href="http://forums.appleinsider.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=10&t=002956"; target="_blank">Should be in genius bar</a>

and

<a href="http://forums.appleinsider.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=10&t=002964"; target="_blank">Here</a>

and

<a href="http://forums.appleinsider.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=10&t=002962"; target="_blank">Here</a>

...all from GD....the same forum my topic was in.

Now, from Future Harware

<a href="http://forums.appleinsider.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=002594"; target="_blank">How many threads have we had like this? </a>

sdw, your first 2 examples are purchasing advice...

and while i agree that your thread should not have been closed.... this is not the way to go about rectifying it...

PM a mod (funny thing is you dont know which mod did it) and that should be the extent of it... if he doesnt respond, PM an admin... if they still dont respond, then you make a thread like this...

Jamie why don't you go piss off again. I noticed you were back, and I was going to say "hi," but about 5 out of your 6 posts are obnoxious, pointless, and bitter. You obviously don't like us here - why don't you just stay out.

Don't worry, I'm most certainly not back.

And I don't "hate" any of you, but working so close to Apple I now realize how much sh!t some of you talk and how frustrating that is.

    Take care,

Yes, that's quite true. Some things never change. Including you.

I had posted a derogatory comment here, but I decided it would be better to refrain from responding in that manner. Your post regarding how frustrating we all are is condescending and rude.

This is perfectly valid way to bring it up. The mods close threads that don't need closing. Then, they leave others that should be closed.

[quote] If you feel the moderator who locked your thread has erred in locking it, email or private message the moderator or an administrator about it. Do not create a new thread protesting the lock, or a thread in Suggestions about it. <hr></blockquote>

from point 10 of the posting guidelines...

not that its a big deal or anything... just pointing it out

sdw, did you read that thread that murbot linked to, at the bottom where your's was closed? it most certainly was covering the exact same information, although the titles were slightly different.

in this case, it's apparent why the thread was closed, and who closed it. i don't quite understand why you felt you had to bring it up here.

as for your GD examples, those were purchasing advice. the DVD one could have gone in the Genius Bar, but it wasn't horribly out of place in GD.

was it really that traumatic to have the thread closed?

there are 4 whole threads with locks on them. two were moved, two were duplicates (yours included)

what did murbot say when you brought this up with him?

Fair enough.....I'll change the thread title to reflect the broader point I was making as well.....

i should also mention, i think that initially your thread was fine, but as the other thread developed, it began to encompass the train of thought your thread was presenting, and was more active. it was just a shift of the discussion from one thread to another. rather than lose the points you were making, shift them to the more active thread that's already talking about the subject and all's well.

I'd like to point out that this is mostly untrue. Sometimes we are not able to close/move a thread because we only moderate certain forums; we have to wait for someone with enough access to do it.

Furthermore, the mods and admins here close the threads that need closing. Reasons are always posted when something is closed. In regards to things you believe should be closed, we obviously disagree

It's kind of ironic that this thread should be locked too, since it kind of violates the posting guidelines

    Kidding folks, move along....

Your first 2 examples certainly do not belong in the Genius Bar.

Your GD thread about MS did deserve to be locked. Don't take it as some personal attack - it was a duplicate thread. They're talking about the MS punishment, and you want to post what you think the punishment should have been... this needs it's own thead why exactly?

You can take this up with me personally if you really disagree with how I handled it. A thread here is a little unnecessary.

There is such a thing as OVERMODDING. Discussions EVOLVE over the course of many posts.

Off subject, but I gotta say those Mod discriptions are, um, pretty creative. (Mighty Genitals [mod], ooh! ooh! do me!, etc.) I wonder what they'll be next week. <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />

(Hey, it's 4:34AM, on my 5th cup of coffee, and have some major homework due in a few hours) Woops, GTG. Keep it up.
